One of the workhorses of software applications is the concept of data base management systems (DBMS). Data base management system applications provide ways to compile data in an orderly fashion and produce a range of reports that offer information about the data.

In our system, the configuration manager supplies control data (such as parameters that are to be monitored) to the management proxies and monitors at run time. It is based on tlie Common Information Model (CIM) [636], which is a standardized model for representing various aspects of management of applications, systems, and networks. 

Additionally, based on the preceding data, the goals of the RD D permit process, which are to expedite the development of land disposal alternatives and simplify the permit application and issuance process, are not being met. Not only are the goals not being met, it would seem fair to say that the complexity of the present hazardous waste management system is promoting economic inefficiencies which cannot be justified. 

We are very accustomed to using forms and reports, often prepared in a standard fashion for a particular application. Record-based models are computer implementations of these spreadsheet-like forms. Two types can be identified. The first of these, common in the early days of file processing systems (FPSs) or file management systems (FMSs), is the individual record model. This is little more than an electronic file drawer in which records are stored. It is useful for a great many applications. More sophisticated, however, is the relational database data model, in which mathematical relations are used to electronically cut and paste reports from a variety of files. Relational database systems have been developed to a considerable degree of sophistication, and many commercial products are available. Oracle and Informix are two leading providers. 

Based on DMU, FDMU shall comprise the results of aU simulations needed for full presentation of the behavioral system description. Literally spoken, FDMU extracts the data from aU virtual models of a product and gives them a physical meaning. It makes the product function experienceable and facilitates the physicalisation of data by setting the physical effects in context of a product [27]. As a prerequisite, one has to ensure a deep interaction between visualization and numerical simulation with respect to product life-cycle management. FDMU application requires three basic components a description of the geometry, a description of the behavior and a comprehensive visualization of the results with fine adjustable filtering capability (Fig. 13.7).
