Dairy Denmark

The largest dairy company in Denmark, called "Dairy Denmark" is, as far as I know, the most progressive one in the world today with regards to the production of whey proteins by means of ultrafiltration. Figure 5 is a photo of a quite new protein factory, called "Denmark Proteins", whose sole purpose is to ultrafiltrate... [Pg.31]

Up till now nothing has been released concerning the total economy of the plant, but I am convinced that "Dairy Denmark" have made sure that the economy is sound. [Pg.31]

Figures for the numbers of organic dairy cows in Europe (Foster Lampkin, 1999) indicated that in 1996 Great Britain still had only 3436 organic dairy cows, compared to Austria (87 068), Switzerland (32 504) and Denmark (21417). By 1999 Padel, et al. (2000) calculated that there were 45 million litres of organic milk produced in the UK. From 2000 to 2003 organic milk production in the UK increased by approximately 600%, and the total organic milk collected in 2003 was 293.4 million litres, of which 62% was sold as organic (Soil Association, 2003). There have been relatively few studies comparing the mineral and vitamin composition of milk from different dairy systems. Toledo et al. (2002) compared milk samples from organic and conventional dairy systems in Sweden, for iodine and selenium, and found that levels of selenium but not iodine were lower in organic milk. Studies in Denmark compared the vitamin E... [Pg.101]

An investigation of residues of di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate in retail whole milk samples from 14 Danish dairies about six months after the use of di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate-plasticized milk tubing was banned in Denmark in August 1989 revealed a mean concentration lower than 50 ig/L (Petersen, 1991). [Pg.53]

Additionally several surveys show that the restricted use of antibiotics in organic agriculture reduces the problems of antibiotic resistance, a theme that is very important in relation to zoonotic pathogens. These studies demonstrate that isolates of relevant bacteria from organic dairy herds were significantly more susceptible to antimicrobials than those from conventional herds in the USA, Denmark and Scotland (Tikofsky ef al. 2003, Sato ef al. 2004, Hoyle ef aZ. 2004). [Pg.312]
