Cylinder of hydrogen

Manufacture. Small cylinders of hydrogen sulfide are readily available for laboratory purposes, but the gas can also be easily synthesized by action of dilute sulfuric or hydrochloric acid on iron sulfide, calcium sulfide [20548-54-3], zinc sulfide [1314-98-3], or sodium hydrosulfide [16721 -80-5]. The reaction usually is mn in a Kipp generator, which regulates the addition of the acid to maintain a steady hydrogen sulfide pressure. Small laboratory quantities of hydrogen sulfide can be easily formed by heating at 280—320°C a mixture of sulfur and a hydrogen-rich, nonvolatile aUphatic substance, eg, paraffin. Gas evolution proceeds more smoothly if asbestos or diatomaceous earth is also present. [Pg.135]

The checkers used hydrogen chloride from one of the cylinders of hydrogen chloride now available commercially. [Pg.99]

Segregate cylinders of hydrogen sulphide from oxygen or other highly-oxidizing or combustible materials. [Pg.205]

The SHE requires cumbersome apparatus, including a heavy cylinder of hydrogen The SHE can be expensive because of using H2 gas... [Pg.329]

Apparent near the bench on which the GC unit sits are pressure-regulated compressed gas cylinders of hydrogen and air (in addition to the carrier gas, helium or nitrogen). Metal tubing, typically ]/8-in. diameter, connect the cylinders to the detector. A needle valve is used for flow control. These valves are located in the instrument for easy access and control by the operator. [Pg.349]

Cylinders of hydrogen sulfide are available from the Mathe-son Company, Inc., East Rutherford, New Jersey. [Pg.107]

Cylinder of hydrogen gas, regulator fitted with a Deoxo purifier to remove any oxygen and a flow reducer to limit flow to 5 fC h large fritted-glass bubbler to saturate hydrogen with water vapor constant-temperature bath set at 25°C 0.1 A/ HCl solution (350 mL). [Pg.253]

Columns, glass, 25 x 200 mm 1 Cylinder of air 1 Cylinder of hydrogen 1 Cylinder of nitrogen 1 Cylinder, graduated, 100 mL... [Pg.593]

Immersion in an ice-salt bath, the nitrogen source is removed, and the gas inlet tube is connected to the cylinder of hydrogen chloride. The cylinder tap is cautiously opened, and hydrogen chloride is allowed to bubble through the reaction mixture at a steady but controlled rate until 18.2 g (0.50 mol ... [Pg.98]

Hydrogen bromide gas should be handled in the laboratory using the "basic prudent practices" described in Chapter 5.C, supplemented by the procedures described in Chapter 5.H for the handling of compressed gases. Cylinders of hydrogen bromide should be stored in cool, dry locations, separated from alkah metals and other incompatible substances. [Pg.330]

Because of its toxic, flammable, and gaseous nature, hydrogen sulfide should be handled using the "basic prudent practices" of Chapter 5.C, supplemented by the additional precautions for work with flammable compounds (Chapter 5.F) and for work at high pressure (Chapter 5.H). In particular, cylinders of hydrogen sulfide should be stored and used in a continuously ventilated gas cabinet or fume hood. [Pg.343]

Hydrochloric acid (or hydrogen chloride gas from gas generators). You may find pressurized cylinders of hydrogen chloride. It is more common to find hydrogen chloride gas generators using rock salt and sulfuric acid. [Pg.152]

For this procedure, a chemist would usually use a cylinder of hydrogen gas. Because many students will be following the procedure simultaneously, however, we use the simpler expedient of causing zinc metal to react with dilute sulfuric acid ... [Pg.220]

Some gases may combine several of the above hazards. For example, a cylinder of hydrogen gas combines high pressure with the flammable hazard. Liquid oxygen combines the oxidizer with the low-temperature hazard. [Pg.21]

This Is a handheld portable flame Ionization based detector using a small compressed cylinder of hydrogen. It Is aimed for detection of VOC that will burn. It does not distinguish between Individual pollutants. [Pg.223]

Cylinders of hydrogen provide the most convenient source of the gas, which must be passed through wash bottles containing a solution of alkaline pyrogallol to remove oxygen, dilute sulphuric acid, water and a sample of the solution under test in the cell (this latter prevents alteration of the concentration of the solution in the cell). [Pg.140]
