Process design product stewardship is discussed in detail in the CER, and is broken down under the headings research and development product design and formulation the logistics chain products use and customer assistance end of life. There is also extensive discussion on the use of clean technology both for new plants and the refurbishment of existing ones.

The Eastman Chemical Company also has a solvent selection computer program for customer assistance. The data files allow the selection of replacement solvent blends for coatings and ink formulations. It is axiomatic that sales analysis depends on detailed records of sales of a specific chemical to a specific company. Paramount to the success of such studies is the existence of data recorded on a systematic and continuous basis. It follows that these studies are done best by an ia-house staff on products already produced by the company. However, on occasion, a product new to the company can be studied by the ia-house group with the assistance of their field sales force. For example, a producer of polypropylene could use its people to secure data on the consumption of other thermoplastics by their customers. Such an exercise might identify opportunities for a new producer, but a more detailed marketing research study would probably be done before entry iato the new product area was made. 

The value of presenting original work, whether curiosity-driven or appHed, should not be overlooked. A great many technical service professionals have extraordinary expertise in some areas of substantial specialization. It is not often straightforward to identify persons with such expertise in a given area. Presentation of a paper or conducting a seminar ia one s field of expertise can provide a critical link in the search process customers use to seek assistance on technical issues. 

Recycling and Rense Bnsiness Assistance Centers located in state solid-waste or economic-development agencies, these centers provide recycling businesses with customized and targeted assistance. 

The preparation of a matrix and the subsequent evaluation of the hazards identified can lead to a qualitative judgment of process risk and to the identification of available pathways to reduce that risk. Software is available to assist in making and maintaining interactionlike matrices. One example is a database shell called CHEMPAT (AIChE, 1995). When CHEMPAT is customized by the user, a compatibility chart is produced based on user-supplied chemical information. 

To guarantee shipment on time, you either need to maintain an adequate inventory of finished goods for shipment on demand or utilize only predictable processes and obtain sufficient advanced order information from your customer. When you examine some of the requirements in ISO/TS 16949, you may be tempted to question how you can continually improve performance, reduce costs, and minimize space, material travel, equipment downtime, process variation, etc. and meet 100% on-time shipments. You can t, unless you have a partnership with your customer in which there is mutual assistance to meet common objectives. Without sufficient lead time on orders you will be unlikely to meet the target. However, the standard does acknowledge that you may not always be successful. There will be matters outside your control and matters over which you need complete control. It is the latter that you can do something about and take corrective action should the target not be achieved.

The temperature of heated fuel when delivered into customer s storage will depend upon the length of time in transit, or the measures of preheat given to a rail tank car to assist discharge. These heat sources should not be overlooked in calculations. 

Traditionally, customers employ water treatment service companies simply as external contractors to assist in the maintenance of clean and efficient waterside surfaces in their various heating, steam generating, cooling, and certain industrial process systems. The customers benefit from genuine improvements in operating efficiency, reductions in maintenance time, and replacement component costs. In addition, where industrial processes are involved they often profit from an added-value, due to an improved product quality or reduction in manufacturing cost.

Type diagrams represent the static relationships between objects and the actions intrinsically applicable to them. Collaborations represent dynamic behavior, as when your client says, A check-out means that a customer chooses a video from the shelves, shows it to the assistant, and takes it away. You can draw the diagram shown in Figure 5.4.
