Current-integrating system

Another enhancement in current development is preconcentration subsystems appropriate for Fido robot-deployed and handheld explosives detection systems. The primary Fido operational concept does not incorporate preconcentration, but clearly there are scenarios and applications where preconcentration will contribute to performance. To this end, integrated systems that will tightly couple AFP-based detection with MEMS-based preconcentration are under development. 

One of the most topical ways of approaching this type of system, where separation and detection take place sequentially in space and time, to current trends in Science and Technology (e.g. automation and miniaturization) involves integrating both steps. Current research efforts have progressed to the point where the above processes have been investigated individually, so that the challenge now is to assemble them into an integrated system that exhibits the properties of the living state. This chapter focuses on the self-organizing properties of amphiphilic compounds that produce microscopic compartments necessary for the appearance of the first cellular forms of life. 

The validation integrity of LIMS must be periodically reviewed to ensure that ongoing support systems are effective. The review process should be designed to identify trends that may indicate noncompliance with support procedures or weakness in the original validation exercise. The review should further examine the original test data sets to determine their applicability to the current computer system configuration and duty. The review shall determine if there is a need for further validation of the cnrrent LIMS installation. 

We note that metabolic systems are studied often in systems biology using dynamics analysis such as flux balance analysis and differential equations. However, discussion regarding systems dynamics is beyond the scope of this current manuscript, and we refer the interested reader to the relevant literature (37, 38). This limitation, however, does not preclude these analyses from the standpoint of integrated systems analysis for understanding the metabolic pathway.
