Curing digestion

Surawicz CM, McFarland LV Pseudomembranous colitis Causes and cures. Digestion 1999 60 91-100. [Pg.60]

In medicine, bromelain is effective in die treatment of inflammation and edema is a wide variety of tissues [2,4-7,103.1081. to cure digestive disorders by means of replacement therapy [109], and in cardiovascular and circulatory disorders [95], and it may be important in protecting die small intestine from... [Pg.145]

In sludge digester startup, this condition is known as a stuck digester and can be cured by the slow addition of alkaline buffers to the mix. Strong alkalis can take the mix well out of the sludge range, where all activity stops. [Pg.206]

Moss, A.R. and Givens, D.l. (1990) Chemical composition and in vitro digestion to predict digestibility of field-cured and barn-dried grass hays. Animal Eeed Science Technology 31,125-138. [Pg.216]

A single 2 g dose of niclosamide results in cure rates of over 85% for D latum and about 95% for T saginata. It is probably equally effective against T solium. Cysticercosis can theoretically occur after treatment of T solium infections, because viable ova are released into the gut lumen after digestion of segments, but no such cases have been reported. [Pg.1153]

Quite often, after patients finish their course of antibiotics, the infection recurs and even becomes chronic. In this case, a formula should be composed using low doses of cold bitter herbs which have similar functions to the antibiotics but with a broader spectrum, along with herbs that can strengthen the Middle-Jiao, transform the dampness and promote digestion as well as dispersing the constrained Qi and heat. In this way, infections can be cured with minimal side effects from the antibiotics. [Pg.32]

There is no doubt, though, that echinacea has physiological activity. Researchers have cured rodents infected with bacteria by injecting them with echinacea solutions. But this is not the same as a human taking an oral preparation. The polysaccharides, which are widely regarded as active molecules, probably do not survive digestion. Test-tube studies also indicate that a number of echinacea preparations can increase the activity of certain white blood cells that have immune function, but human evidence is harder to come by. Conflicting studies... [Pg.40]

Thus a combination of chloroquine with the agents that cured P. falciparum of its apicoplast may be helpful in preventing the parasite from invading new host cells, and this combination may also kill the parasite, because it could not then flux out accumulated chloroquine in its digestive food vacuole. [Pg.60]

Iron bioavailability may be increased in the presence of meat (Politz and Clydesdale 1988). This is the so-called meat factor. The exact mechanism of this effect is not known, but it has been suggested that amino acids or polypeptides that result from digestion are able to chelate nonheme iron. These complexes would facilitate the absorption of iron. In nitrite-cured meats some factors promote iron bioavailability (the meat factor), particularly heme iron and ascorbic acid or erythor-bic acid. Negative factors may in-clude nitrite and nitrosated heme (Lee and Greger 1983). [Pg.125]
