Curcumin procedure

A curcumin-based automated version of the above procedure [78] has been described [79]. Determinations can be made in the range 0.1-6mg boron per litre. At a level of 3 mg/1 the coefficient of variation was 1.5% and the detection limit was 0.01 mg/1. Up to 240 samples per hour can be processed by the procedure. [Pg.145]

Heme oxygenase-1 is inducible and a number of compounds have been identified which induce it so as to produce carbon monoxide, biliverdin/bilirubin and Fe2+/ferritin [12]. These include aspirin, statins, curcumin (a component of turmeric) and resveratrol (a component of red wine). The induction of heme oxygenase takes many hours so that such treatments are applicable to chronic conditions. Aspirin and statins are now prescribed for the cardiovascular system but the significance of the heme oxygenase is unproven. The compounds that are catabolised to give CO provide an alternative procedure. [Pg.273]

Procedure Determine the absorbance of the Sample Preparation in a 1-cm cell at the wavelength of maximum absorption between 420 and 425 nm with a suitable spectrophotometer, using acetone as the blank. Calculate the percent curcumin in the sample by the formula... [Pg.944]

The hot water extractable soil B method is based on refluxing air dry soil for 10 minutes with deionised water at a 1 2 soil/solution ratio. After replacing liquid lost during reflux, extracts are filtered while hot and allowed to cool. The first of the two analytical finishes is a colorimetric procedure which utilises azomethine-H (Rayment Higginson 1992). It is preferred when ICPAES is not available. Other colorimetric procedures for determining B, including carminic acid (Hatcher Wilcox 1950) and curcumin (Hayes ... [Pg.107]

The aluminon (24) procedure for the determination of beryllium produced the best precision and the curcumin (4) procedure for boron, the poorest. In general, all of the methods (3, 15, 20) were found to be acceptable. [Pg.259]

The increased absorption, as well as the bathochromic shift, of boric compounds with aromatic polyols are the basis for a great variety of analytical determinations of boron. Thus, the reaction of B(OH)3 with alizarin in cone. HaS04 to form the stable ester is probably the most common procedure (22, 57). The orange-red colored curcumin-borate ester has a very high molar extinction coefficient which makes this compound a powerful means to detect even traces of boric acid 68). [Pg.172]

With curcumin (l,7-bis(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-l,6-heptadiene-3,5-dione) boron forms two different complexes both procedures are known in the literature as the curcumin method . Rubrocurcumin is formed from boric acid, curcumin and oxalic acid in a 1 1 1 complex rosocyanin forms in the presence of strong sulphuric add by the reaction between boric acid and curcumin, probably in a ratio of 1 2. An extensive study of the chemistry has been given by Dyrssenetal (1972). Rosocyanin is the preferred complex for boron determi-... [Pg.246]

There are lots of phytopharmaceutical compounds available for use in the treatment of a variety of diseases. Gymnemic acids nanocrystals over microcrystals should overcome the absorption problem in the gastrointestinal tract and increase the bioavailability. The nanocrystals of gymnemic acids may offer necessary hints on how to move the medical ends of the herb to a novel pharmaceutical system for additional exploration for treatment of disease [66]. Ravichandran et al. prepared spray-dried curcumin nanocrystals by high homogenization technique that is used to supply the drug in capsule form. Dried drug nanocrystals provide superior chemical science properties. Curcumin nanocrystal-loaded capsules are often made via standard procedures. From the Noyes-Whitney equation, the hyperbolic area and saturation solubility attributable to the decrease in radius lead to hyperbolic dissolution velocity [67]. [Pg.226]

In comparison to e.g. the curcumine method this procedure is less time consuming. It is important that the pH value is kept exactly and that the added peroxide is destroyed completely (boiling under addition of some Fe(II)). [Pg.136]
