Cupric hydroxide

Prepare the cupric hydroxide by dissolving 2 g. of copper sulphate in about too ml. of water, and adding with stirring 16 ml. of N.NaOH solution. Filter off the precipitate and wash thoroughly with water. [Pg.382]

Cellulose. This is insoluble in water, hot and cold. It dissolves in a solution of Schweitzer s reagent (precipitated cupric hydroxide is washed free from salts and then dissolved in concentrated ammonia solution), from which it is precipitated by the addition of dilute acids. Cellulose is not hydrolysed by dilute hydrochloric acid. [Pg.458]

Aqueous ammonia also acts as a base precipitating metallic hydroxides from solutions of their salts, and in forming complex ions in the presence of excess ammonia. For example, using copper sulfate solution, cupric hydroxide, which is at first precipitated, redissolves in excess ammonia because of the formation of the complex tetramminecopper(TT) ion. [Pg.338]

Copper is not ordinarily corroded in water unless dissolved oxygen is present. In nearly pure aerated water, a thin, protective layer of cuprous oxide and cupric hydroxide forms. Oxygen must diffuse through the film for corrosion to occur. [Pg.102]

The oxidation products of hydroxylamine depend upon the nature of the oxidizing agent and the conditions of oxidation. Acid solutions of hydroxylamine react with ferric oxide to give quantitative yields of nitrous oxide and water (Knorre and Arndt, 20 Bray et al., 21) alkaline solutions of hydroxylamine react with cupric hydroxide to give... [Pg.116]

A basic copper chlorate is formed when soln. of potassium chlorate acidified with sulphuric acid are electrolyzed with an alternating current between copper electrodes (L. Rossi) 83 when the hydrate is heated above 100° (A. Wachter) when a soln. of copper chlorate be mixed with pieces of marble or urea, and heated in a sealed tube to 130° (L. Bourgeois) when the hydroxides of the alkalies or alkaline earths act on cupric chlorate soln., or copper hydroxide acts on soln. of potassium chlorate (A. Brochet) when hydrated cupric oxide or cupric hydroxide acts on cupric chlorate soln. (P. Sabatier) or when potassium chlorate acts on cupric acetate soln. (A. Casselmann), basic cupric chlorate is obtained. The basic chlorate forms bluish-green monoclinic prisms of sp. gr. 3 55 and composition 4Cu0.C1205.3H20, that is, Cu(C103)2.3Cu(0H)2, which A. Werner considers to be hexahydroxyl cupric chlorate ... [Pg.342]

Green cupric azide has also been described (Dennis and Isham [44]). It is formed by the action of hydrazoic acid on cupric hydroxide or (according to Straumanis and Cirulis) on cupric oxide. It is sometimes grey in colour. [Pg.185]

Cupric Amminoazide (Ammoniate of Copper Azide), Diammine copper azide, [Cu(NHj)a] (Nj)a, mw 181.65, N 61.69% green crysrs, expl when heated or struck. Obtained by Dennis Isham (Ref 2) by shaking freshly pptd black cupric hydroxide, while still moist, with ao excess of hydrazoic acid, and washing and dissolving the ppt in aq ammonia. This compd was also prepd by Browne et al (Ref 6) and studied by Strecker Schwinn (Ref 8) and by Straumanis Cirulis (Ref 11) (See also Ref 21, p 149 and Table D under Ammines in this dictionary). Tetrammine copper azide, [Cu(NHs),](N3)a, mw 215.72, N 64.90%, blue crysts, expl at 202° and on impact. Prepd by Strecker Schwinn (Ref 8) and by Straumanis Cirulis (Ref 11) from cupric azide and NHS, (either liq or the dry gas). Only the di- and tetrammino- compds were prepd, (See also Ref 21, p 149 and Table D under Ammines)... [Pg.533]
