Goldstein MN. 1981. Effect of methyl-n-butyl ketone and other ketone homologues on mammalian cells in culture. Report to National Institute of Occupational Health and Safety, Cincinnati, OH, by Washington University, St. Louis, MO. NTIS No. PB81-225997. [Pg.79]

These experimental observations suggest a simple direct mechanism of DNA release from endosomal membranes into the cytoplasm that is consistent with the higher transfection efficiencies in mammalian cell cultures reported empirically in CL/DNA complexes containing DOPE compared to those containing DOPC, which are known to exhibit the structure. These findings unambiguously establish a correlation between... [Pg.183]

Oxidation Kinetics of Mn(II). This section addresses the question of whether the Mn(II) oxidation rates shown in Figure 4 can be explained by microbiological or abiotic pathways. Several incubation studies of Mn(II) with natural water, natural particulate matter, or pure cultures reported evidence for microbial catalysis of Mn(II) oxidation (4, 18, 54-58). In bottom waters of Lake Zurich (58) and in water samples from the marine fjord of Saanich Inlet (18) maximum Mn oxidation occurred at around 33 and 20 °C, respectively. These results strongly suggest microbial catalysis. In the case of abiotic catalysis, a steady increase in the oxidation rate with temperature is to be expected (16). Working with water samples from the bottom of Lake Zurich that were spiked with Mn(II) at 2 or 10 xM, Diem (58) found a Michaelis-Menten-type rate law for Mn(II) oxidation ... [Pg.128]

Antibiotic therapy can be modified after Gram stain and culture reports are available. If a diagnosis of type II necrotizing fasciitis is established, the broad-spectrum empirical therapy should be... [Pg.1985]

Screening of commercially available xylosidases, xylanases, and other glycosidases did not reveal any that removed xylose from 7-xylosylpaclitaxel or 7-xylosyl-lO-deacetylpaclitaxel. Nine ATCC cultures reported to have xylanase activity were also inactive for hydrolysis of 7-xylosyl-... [Pg.292]

Yet another example suggesting we have much work to do to achieve inclusion is the Out and Equal Workplace Culture Report (Harris Interactive, 2008), which tracked attitudes about LGBT workers in the U.S. from 2002 to 2008. This survey found that, in... [Pg.207]
