Cryogenic liquids shipment

Over-the-road shipment costs of cryogenic liquid hydrogen. This mode is expected to be used in the early stages of hydrogen supply to filling depots and stations. 

Liquid hydrogen is authorized for shipment in TC/DOT specification insulated welded cylinders, TC/DOT specification insulated cargo tanks, TC/DOT specification cryogenic liquid tank cars, and insulated portable tanks under exemption. 

Methane may be shipped in any cylinders of the types authorized for nonliquefled compressed gases. Bulk industrial users of methane usually receive it as natural gas by pipeline and purify it if necessary for further processing. Ocean shipment of methane is made in specially designed ships carrying it as a cryogenic liquid. 

Large field-erected vessels for storage and barge shipment of liquid cryogens (e.g., liquid hydrogen and methane) can now be readily insulated with quilted superinsulations. Moreover, this particular application technique makes possible further use of superinsulations to a number of unusual applications. 

Argon gas is authorized for shipment in cylinders, tube tank cars, and tube trailers. Liquid argon is shipped as a cryogenic fluid in vacuum-insulated cylinders, insulated portable tanks, insulated tank trucks, and tank cars.
