Two processes of sample division and reduction are covered (1) procedure A, in which manual riffles are used for division of the sample and mechanical crushing equipment for reduction of the sample, and (2) procedure B, in which mechanical sample dividers are used for division of the sample and mechanical crushing equipment for reduction of the sample. A third process that is, in reality, a combination of procedures A and B may be used at any stage. [Pg.33]

Few conclusive studies have identified the source or spread of Brettanomyces within the vineyard except for use of contaminated equipment. Contaminated and improperly sanitized crush equipment, drains, barrels, transfer hoses, valves, pumps, and bottling equipment can all act as sources for further infection (33). Harper (67) found the interior surface of plastic (polyvinyl chloride, polyethene, and plasticised nylon) pipes used commonly in the brewing industry maintained a variety of bacteria and yeast populations, including Brettanomyces. [Pg.101]

Preparation section If crushing is necessary, correct selection of the mill is of the utmost importance. Depending on the coal type, different mills and/or operating conditions of the crushing equipment may be required. It is desirable to produce a feed for briquetting which is not too fine but has a wide particle size distribution and features high bulk weight. Normally, impact mills are applied. [Pg.457]

Ore beneficiation consists of two main steps comminution and concentration. Comminution is first performed by crushing. Equipment in use comprises jaw, cone, or impact crushers working mostly in closed circuits with vibratory screens. The second step in comminution is grinding, which is undertaken in rod or ball mills working in closed circuits with classifiers. [Pg.180]

In a fluidized-bed combustor, heat and mass transfer between the fluidizing gas and the solid particles are extremely efficient and fluidized-bed reactors are used for carrying out many chemical reactions on an industrial scale (e.g., catalytic cracking of hydrocarbons) (Speight, 2007). An additional advantage of fluidized-bed combustors is that they can use fairly coarse coal particles (ca. 0.04 in., ca. 1 mm diameter) and there is no need for much of the costly crushing equipment associated with the preparation of pulverized fuel. [Pg.454]

Reduction of a variety of components to a common size is inevitably a difficult task to mechanise. Where scrap components are of heavy cross section and bulky, the best choice is often a handsaw or a machine band saw. If a machine is to be used, care is necessary if excessive heat generation is to be avoided. Alternatively pre-crushing equipment is available which has a sufficiently large throat to receive and deal with a comparatively large size range. [Pg.156]
