Crosslinked structures preparation

In this case, the elements of the crosslinked structure exhibit higher mobility, the permeability of the crosslinked structure depends on the degree of hydration. It should be noted that the pore size in hydrated crosslinked copolymers is determined by small-angle X-ray scattering or with the aid of electron microscopy using special methods of preparation for the CP samples [15],... [Pg.5]

Tetraglycidyl ether of tetraphenolethane is an epoxy resin that is noted for high-temperature and high-humidity resistance. It has a functionality of 3.5 and thus exhibits a very dense crosslink structure. It is useful in the preparation of high-temperature adhesives. The resin is commercially available as a solid (e.g., EPON Resin 1031, Resolution Performance Polymers). It can be crosslinked with an aromatic amine or a catalytic curing agent to induce epoxy-to-epoxy homopolymerization. High temperatures are required for these reactions to occur. [Pg.78]

If indeed supramolecular dusters are formed spontaneously in bulk films of appropriately designed rod-coil systems, by inclusion of appropriate reactive units it should be possible to convert these into molecular objects by crosslinking, while maintaining the predse size and shape of the cluster. In order to test this hypothesis, rod-coil triblock copolymers, with structures similar to those described previously, but with a few modifications to enable crosslinking, were prepared. Stupp and coworkers replaced the poly(isoprene) block with a poly( butadiene) (PB) block (which contains both 1,2- and 1,4-linked repeat units), which is known to undergo thermal crosslinking at high temperatures [70]. Additionally, the phenolic OH... [Pg.504]

Several types of crosslinked structures were prepared by copolymerizing vinyl ethers containing 4-carbomethoxyperfluoroalkyl moieties in the structure and using various crosslinking agents to bring about vulcanization. [Pg.28]

Phenolic resins are prepared by a step-growth polymerisation of formaldehyde and phenol or phenol derivative using an acid or a base catalyst. The product type and the quality largely depend on the ratio of the reactants used and the nature of the catalyst. Phenolic resins are available in two varieties 1) novolac, which is a thermoplastic type and can be used as it is or can be cured with hexamethylene tetramine (HMTA) to get a crosslinked structure. This can also be viewed as a reactive intermediate, and can be transformed into other groups so different types of structures can be generated and 2) resole, which is a multifunctional reactive compound and can be cured thermally without a catalyst or an acid catalyst. [Pg.63]

A series of studies was also made by us, of the PUs cyclic stress-strain response. The range of structures achieved by us was widened by inclusion of DBDI, as a diisocyanate with a very strong tendency to packing due to its constitutional mobility. A systematic investigation (as shown in Table 4.5), was made of the effects of varying HS and SS chemistry, crosslinking and preparation procedures, on the hysteresis behaviour and Mullins effect of melt-cast polyurethane elastomers. The... [Pg.119]

Nanocapsules prepared by the polymerization of rather complex entities were made by Stewart and Lui [66], who stabilized block copolymer vesicles made of polyisoprene-b-poly(2-cinnamoylethyl methacrylate) diblock copolymers by UV crosslinking. A similar approach using block copolymer building blocks was used by Meier and colleagues, who generated nanocapsules by crossKnking polymerization of ABA triblock copolymer vesicles [67], the size of which can be controlled in the range of 50 nm up to 500 nm. Due to their crosslinked structure, both the Uu and the Meier nanocapsules are shape-persistent, even after their isolation from aqueous solution. [Pg.41]

Structure of Crosslinkers Undoubtedly, the structure of the crosslinker for preparation of free-standing PLCP films plays an important role in their pho-toresponsive behavior. Upon preparation of crosslinked PLCPs, photoisomerizable azobenzene can either be included or not in the molecular structure of crosslinkers. However, the resultant crosslinked PLCP films showed different bending behaviors for homogeneously aligned PLCP films [35]. As shown in Figure 7.16, the... [Pg.248]

Figures 5 and 6 illustrate the DSC and TGA curves of the PMMA and the prepared hybrid material, SilS, respectively. As shown in Figure 5, the Tg of PMMA is about 108°C but there is no observable Tg in the case of SilS. The disappearance of the Tg may be due to the restriction of motion of polymeric chain segments in the crosslinked structure of the prepared hybrid material. The incorporation of the silica segment into PMMA also raises the Tj from 251 C to... Calcium ISE with both sensor and mediator groups covalently-bound have also been prepared, by incorporating diallyl phenylphosphonate (DAPP) into the polymer together with DAPH. In our CBS membranes, the best results were observed with approximately 5% w/w sensor (TAP or DAPH) covalently-bound in the polymer. Mediators are commonly used in a large excess over sensors (typically 10 1), but such an excess of DAPP over DAPH produced a highly crosslinked structure, which did not yield functional electrodes. Thus, further... [Pg.346]

The two-step preparation via an intermediate (HBPAA or LPAA) was chosen for the preparation both HBPI (Figure 9) and LPI [5]. Taking into consideration the gel (crosslinked structure) formation at definite reaction extent during the reaction of a bifunctional and a trifunctional monomer [15], our attention was also devoted to the choice of optimal reaction conditions of the HBPI(ODPA-MTA) preparation. The maximal monomer concentrations in NMP and the way of their combination were especially found. The dianhydride solution was added drop-to-drop to the diamine solution. This monomer order also decreases a probability of the dianhydride hydrolysis during an intermediate preparation. [Pg.45]

Various workers have shown that Py-GC and Py-MS are both capable of giving information on the chemical structure of insoluble PS networks [49-53]. In particular, high resolution Py-MS is a powerful technique for the characterisation of copolymers with crosslinked structures [47, 53] and has provided information on structural differences between anionically and radically prepared styrene-divinylbenzene (ST-DVB) copolymers [53]. [Pg.252]
