Criterion initiators

Quantification of the structural deformations occurring along the molecular dynamics is obtained using the distance-flucmation criterion initially introduced by Berry et al. [131]. The Berry parameter Ab is expressed for a system of N atoms and inter atomic distances between atoms i and j as... [Pg.23]

A majority of the modules requires certain input parameters, which have to be defined in a user-written configuration file, and is read by the main python module main.py. The configuration file specifies all class objects, modules, and submodules that are desired for optimization process. It also contains important preferences concerning the system (e.g., inpul/output paths, number of computer cores, batch system), the optimization (e.g., algorithm, step length control, stopping criterion, initial parameters, constraints), and the optimization problem (e.g., objective functions, the loss function s target values). When molecular simulations are performed, all desired properties and parameters of the thermodynamic system have to be defined (e.g., ensemble, temperatures, pressures, physical properties to be fitted, number of molecules, box size, number of MD/MC steps, time step). Hence, the file is divided into three blocks. If more than one substance is considered in the optimization, one block for each substance has to be indicated. [Pg.69]

To illustrate the criterion for parameter estimation, let 1, 2, and 3 represent the three components in a mixture. Components 1 and 2 are only partially miscible components 1 and 3, as well as components 2 and 3 are totally miscible. The two binary parameters for the 1-2 binary are determined from mutual-solubility data and remain fixed. Initial estimates of the four binary parameters for the two completely miscible binaries, 1-3 and 2-3, are determined from sets of binary vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) data. The final values of these parameters are then obtained by fitting both sets of binary vapor-liquid equilibrium data simultaneously with the limited ternary tie-line data. [Pg.67]

Equations (7-8) and (7-9) are then used to calculate the compositions, which are normalized and used in the thermodynamic subroutines to find new equilibrium ratios,. These values are then used in the next Newton-Raphson iteration. The iterative process continues until the magnitude of the objective function 1g is less than a convergence criterion, e. If initial estimates of x, y, and a are not provided externally (for instance from previous calculations of the same separation under slightly different conditions), they are taken to be... [Pg.121]

Convergence of the iteration requires the norm of the objective vector 1g to be less than the convergence criterion, e. The initial estimates used, if not provided externally, are, in addition to Equation (7-28)... [Pg.122]

The V/L ratio is a volatility criterion seldom used in France but is used in Japan and in the United States where it has been standardized as ASTM D 2533. At a given temperature and pressure, the V/L ratio represents the volume of vapor formed per unit volume of liquid taken initially at 0°C. [Pg.191]

The reservoir model will usually be a computer based simulation model, such as the 3D model described in Section 8. As production continues, the monitoring programme generates a data base containing information on the performance of the field. The reservoir model is used to check whether the initial assumptions and description of the reservoir were correct. Where inconsistencies between the predicted and observed behaviour occur, the model is reviewed and adjusted until a new match (a so-called history match ) is achieved. The updated model is then used to predict future performance of the field, and as such is a very useful tool for generating production forecasts. In addition, the model is used to predict the outcome of alternative future development plans. The criterion used for selection is typically profitability (or any other stated objective of the operating company). [Pg.333]

Note The segmentation operation yields a near-optimal estimate x that may be used as initialization point for an optimization algoritlim that has to find out the global minimum of the criterion /(.). Because of its nonlinear nature, we prefer to minimize it by using a stochastic optimization algorithm (a version of the Simulated Annealing algorithm [3]). [Pg.175]

After an initial starting geometry has been generated and optimized (e.g., in a force field), the new conformation is compared with all the previously generated conformations, which are usually stored as a list of unique conformations. If a substantially different geometry is detected it is added to the list otherwise, it is rejected. Then a new initial structure is generated for the next iteration. Finally, a preset stop criterion, e.g., that a given number of loops has been performed or that no new conformations can be found, terminates the procedure. [Pg.105]

Figure 4.3a shows schematically how the Gibbs free energy of liquid (subscript 1) and crystalline (subscript c) samples of the same material vary with temperature. For constant temperature-constant pressure processes the criterion for spontaneity is a negative value for AG, where the A signifies the difference final minus initial for the property under consideration. Applying this criterion to Fig. 4.3, we conclude immediately that above T , AGf = Gj - G. is negative... [Pg.206]

Design Criteria. Traditionally the yield pressure has been regarded as an important design criterion because it is the largest pressure to which an initially stress-free cylinder may be subjected without the cylinder suffering any permanent deformation when the pressure is removed. Customarily,... [Pg.95]

This ambiguity in the stress space loading criterion may be illustrated by considering a stress-strain plot corresponding to simple tension, as shown schematically in Fig. 5.3. With each point on the stress-strain curve past the initial elastic limit point A, there is associated a point on the elastic limit surface in stress space and a point on the elastic limit surface in strain space. On the hardening portion of the stress strain curve AB, both the stress and the strain are increasing, and the respective elastic limit surfaces are moving... [Pg.129]

When calculating the primitive ROI, it s best to establish a criterion. For example, one acceptable ROI calculation is to take an average benefit over 3 to 5 years and divide that by the initial cost to the investment. Another calculation basis, used by the U.S. DOE (Department of Energy) for P2 assessments is as follows ... [Pg.504]

Figures 10.75 and 10.76 show the initial kinematic momentum required to meet this criterion as a function of the buoyancy velocity and the length of the tank, for different values of the allowable concentration Qj. , and critical veloc-ity As we would expect, the required momentum increases both as the length of the tank increases and as the buoyancy of the contaminant increases.
FIGURE 10.75 Required initial kinematic momentum, f/p, as a function of the length of the tank, L, and the buoyancy velocity, v, when the critical contour criterion is applied with the critical concentration, C ,j, equal to 5% and the cross-drafts equal to 0.05 m s". ... [Pg.954]

A criterion for selecting a right pore size to separate a given polydisperse polymer is provided here. To quantify how much the MW distribution narrows for the initial fraction, an exponent a is introduced (2). The exponent is defined by [PDI(0)] = PDI(l), where PDI(O) and PDI(l) are the polydispersity indices of the original sample and the initial fraction, respectively. A smaller a denotes a better resolution. If a = 0, the separation would produce a perfectly monodisperse fraction. Figure 23.7 shows a plot of a as a function of 2RJd (2). Results... [Pg.624]

The first question can be answered relatively simply (although not completely exactly) from the available factual material. If the pK value of the lactam is taken as a criterion, the border of reactivity lies at about pK 12. Valerolactam and caprolactam react just noticeably with diazomethane (yields 14 and 7%). However, it should be noticed that catalysts are frequently necessary in order to initiate the reaction (methanol, water, aluminum isopropylate," fluoboric acid " ). For example, phthalimide does not react at all with diazomethane in ether, but a smooth reaction occurs if some methanol is added. [Pg.251]

In the combustion chamber, it is essential to purge down to below the LEL before initiating the ignition source. The usual criterion is 25 per cent LEL. [Pg.281]
