In addition, the use of gates or windows in the Coulter counter model ZM enables cell sizes to be accurately determined after the machine has been calibrated with pollen grains of known size. Thus ragweed pollen has a mean volume of 3800 ju,m3. When coupled to a Channelyzer a histogram of the cell size distribution is automatically recorded (Fig. 7.3). [Pg.127]

The second application of availability analysis is used to evaluate the nature and magnitude of thermodynamic irreversibilities in a methane reformer plant coupled to a high-temperature nuclear reactor. It is shown that a combination of thermal histograms and availability concepts are helpful not only in evaluating the net impact of irreversibilities in various chemical process steps on the steam power plant, but, more importantly, 1n suggesting process modifications that could improve the overall efficiency by avoiding unnecessary entropy production. [Pg.87]

The numerical results for the coupling elements are shown in Fig. 3. The histogram for the elements is shown in Fig. 4. As one can see from these figures, most of the elements are small, while the largest coupling elements are rather large. See Table II. Note that the combination (3330, 1996) is particularly significant for the CD mode because it approximately satisfies the... [Pg.194]

Figure 5. Distributions of residual dipolar couplings obtained from a Thikonov regularization of the MQ-NMR growth curve for thermally aged silicone foam. The residual dipolar coupling has been shown to be an indirect measure of crosslink density and represents essentially a histogram of the crosslink density in the polymer network. Aged samples have been shown to undergo chain scissioning reactions. (See page 2 of color inserts.)... Figure 5. Fig. 17. Dipolar coupling tensor depicted with a color coding on a sphere. Equal colors mean equal size of the dipolar coupling. Blue is negative, red is positive dipolar coupling. For uniformly distributed NH vectors in a molecule, the tensor produces a dipolar couphng histogram from which the principal components of the tensor can be read directly. The structure of rhod-niin, from which the data have been generated, is shown at the bottom. Fig. 17. Dipolar coupling tensor depicted with a color coding on a sphere.
