Corydalis yanhusuo W. T. Wang ex Z. Y. Su et C. Y. Wu China d-corydaline, corydalis, dl-tetrahydropalmatine, crybulbine, alpha-allocryptopine, tetrahydrocoptisine, corydalamine, tetrahydrocolumbamine, protopine, coptisine, dehydrocorydaline, columbamine, dehydrocorydalmine.33 Overdosage is toxic. Analgesic, sedative, hypnotic, synergistic, increase coronary flow.

Again for abdominal distention and pain, add Rhizoma Corydalis Yanhusuo (YanHu), Rhizoma Cyperi Rotundi (Xiang Fit), and Fructus Immaturus Citri Seu Ponciri (Zhi Shi). 

If there is severe pain and constipation, to Da Chai Hu Tang add Radix Angelicae Sinensis (Dang Gui) and Rhizoma Corydalis Yanhusuo (YanHu) or Radix Rubrus Paeoniae Lactiflorae (Chi Shao) and Semen Pruni Persicae (Tao Ren). 

For menstrual pain due to qi and blood vacuity, add Rhizoma Ligustici Wallichii (Chuan Xiong), Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae (.Dan Shen), Rhizoma Corydalis Yanhusuo (Yan Hu), Caulis Millettiae Seu Spatholobi (Ji Xue Teng), and Herba Leonuri Heterophylli (Yi Mu Cao). 

For heat and stasis in the liver with hypochondrial pain, a yellow tongue coating, and a wiry, rapid pulse, add Rhizoma Corydalis Yanhusuo YanHu). 

For hypochondrial and lateral costal pain, add Fructus Meliae Toosendan (Chuan Lian Zi) and Rhizoma Corydalis Yanhusuo (YanHu). 

Although no adverse effects are expected at typical therapeutic doses, persons taking large doses (10-15 g) of Corydalis yanhusuo may develop drowsiness, dizziness, and abdominal distention (Bensky et al. 2004). 

Allergic reactions to Corydalis yanhusuo have been reported, including drug fever, erythema, and pruritus, with nausea, dizziness, shortness of breath, and numbness of lips and extremities (Bensky et al. 2004).

Reference texts on traditional Chinese medicine indicate that Corydalis yanhusuo should not be used in pregnancy (Bensky et al. 2004 Chen and Chen 2004), with one text making an exception for "exceptional circumstances" (Bensky et al. 2004). Based on this information, use during pregnancy is not recommended except under the supervision of a qualified healthcare practitioner. 

No information on the safety of Corydalis yanhusuo during lactation was identified. While this review did not identify any concerns for use while nursing, safety has not been conclusively established.

The LD50 of orally administered Corydalis yanhusuo extract in mice was approximately 100 g/kg (Chen and Chen 2004). At this dose, side effects included decreased blood pressure, heart rate, and respiration along with sedation and tremor (Chen and Chen 2004). 

The toxic dose of Corydalis yanhusuo in humans has been reported as 60-120 g. Symptoms of poisoning are reported to appear 1 to 4 hours after ingestion and include dizziness, facial pallor, drowsiness, weakness, dyspnea, spasms, shock, low blood pressure, and weak pulse. In severe cases of shock, tetanic convulsion and respiratory inhibition have been reported (Bensky et al. 2004).
