Recent sources of known protopine alkaloids are Argemone albijiora, A. mexicana, growing in Vietnam and Sudan, U.S.S.R., and North Vietnam, A. ochroleuca, and Corydalis ambigua. Protopine and cryptopine as well as six as yet unidentified alkaloids have been isolated from Fumaria officinalis. The yield of alkaloids from this species as a function of the drying technique has been studied. Papaver urbanianum has been shown to yield muramine and protopine. Apparently, no structurally new protopine alkaloids have been isolated during the past year nor has any synthetic work been carried out. [Pg.155]
