Corrosion finite element analysis

There are large diameter filament-wound pipes (RTRs) used and accepted in underground burial because they provide conditions such as corrosion resistance and installation-cost savings. Pipe design equations have been used that specifically provide useftil information to meet internal and/or external pressure loads. More recently finite element analysis (FEA) has been used to design RP pipes and other structural products. These design approaches utilize performance standards based upon internal pressures and pipes stiffness. Other requirements must be met such as longitudinal effects of internal pressure, temperature... [Pg.257]

Finite element analysis of the seals by the University of Michigan resulted in replacement of the steel pressure plates with plates made of a reinforced nylon composite. Injection molded with ribs, the redesigned pressure plates distribute torque more evenly, while providing higher dielectric strength and improved corrosion resistance. [Pg.39]

Corrosion-related SECM studies on both zirconium and hyperstoichiometric uranium oxide have been reported by Shoesmith and coworkers [70,71]. In both cases, their interest was in identifying areas of high cathodic activity on the substrate and then determining the electron transfer rate constant (k9) for sites of varying activity. Previously existing models for quantitative kinetic determinations have assumed a substrate of infinite dimensions. In practice, however, the active sites in localized corrosion investigations are often of dimensions similar to the microelectrode probe surface. Therefore, finite element analysis was utilized to generate theoretical PACs that allow for variation in the dimensions of both the active area and the probe, as well as in the level... [Pg.465]
