Corey, Elias James. (1928- ). An American who won the Nobel Prize for chemistry in 1990 for development of novel methods for the synthesis of complex natural compounds (retrosynthetic analysis). He specialized in synthesis of terpines. Awarded a doctorate by M.I.T. in 1951.

Elias James Corey coined the term retrosynthetic analysis. He was bom in Massachusetts in 1928 and is a professor of chemistry at Harvard University. He received the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1990for his contribution to synthetic organic chemistry.
