Core campaigns

The three chapters at the start of the book deal with planning core campaigns, planning promotion at international congresses and planning advisory boards. 

It is important that those involved in producing or approving core campaign materials be at least aware of the self-regulatory framework in those countries where the campaign will be used. Table 2.1 is a checklist of action items that could serve as a reminder of the issues to consider when producing materials that are intended for use in more than one country.

One of the greatest benefits of the formation of Malaysia in 1963 was that it at last created a neutral and artificial name for the country distinct from that of any ethnie. The history of the northern hemisphere ice sheets is an important aspect of the paleoclimate system. The layered record of IRD and other climate indicators preserved in deepsea sediment cores provides the potential to unravel the sequences of events surrounding important intervals during the last glacial cycle. Available Instrumentation One of the most obvious constraints on chamber design and experimental programme is the availability of instrumentation to probe the quantities of interest. As outlined above, it is frequently necessary to simultaneously monitor aerosol physical and chemical properties in addition to gas phase ehemical composition. A wide range of instruments are available for deployment in ground and aircraft-based field measurement within the Atmospheric Sciences Group at the University of Manchester. These will be available for deployment in the ehamber in scheduled campaign mode and otherwise periodically when not in field use. In addition, there are a range of core instruments available for all experiments. The instrumentation suite is broadly classified as follows ... 

Dichlorocarbazole was detected in only one sample from the first campaign. The origin and environmental pathway of this chlorinated carbazole are completely unknown so far. Its identification is based on the comparison of mass spectral and gas chromatographic properties with those of reference material. The synthesis performed according to Moskalev et al. (1985) as well as the mass spectra of 3,6-dichlorocarbazole are presented in Figure 5. In recent investigations of dated sediment cores taken from floodplains of the Lippe river both compounds described were also detected (Heim et al., 2004). 

Because neutrinos emitted by PP reactions provide insight into processes occurring in the Solar core, experimenters have carried out numerous campaigns to detect these elusive particles. Those experiments have shown that neutrinos are indeed produced by PP reactions in the Sun, as expected, but that some of these electron-type neutrinos convert into mu-type and tau-type neutrinos on their way to Earth (4). Such neutrino conversion lies outside the Standard Model of Particle Physics thus. Earth-based neutrino detectors have not only provided stunning confirmation of the astrophysics of stars but also invaluable insights into the nature of fundamental particles (e.g., 5).
