Corannulenes absorption

There have been several developments in this area since this manuscript was prepared. The heat of combustion of corannulene was determined by microbomb combustion calorimetry and its gas-phase enthalpy of formation was estimated at 110.8 kcal/mol. All anionic oxidation states of corannulene were observed by optical absorption, EPR, and NMR spectroscopies. More support for the an-nulene-within-annulene model of the corannulene tetraanion was presented. An alternative pyrolysis route to corannulene was reported, as well as some attempts toward the synthesis of bowl-shaped subunits of fullerenes. And in contrast with previous semiempirical studies," ab initio calculations predicted a general concave preference for the metal cation binding to semibuckminsterfullerene 2%. ... 

Absorption and Emission of [10]Cyclophenacenes and Dibenzo Fused Corannulenes... 

The synthesis of a plethora of sym-pentakis substituted corannulenes was recently published by Siegel et al. [37]. The authors introduced various substituents, including sp (37), sp (38) and sp hybridized carbon atoms (39) directly connected to 1 as well as some -SR (40) and -OR (41) derivatives [37]. The UV/vis absorption and emission properties of the derivatives were also studied, as well as the inversion barriers of some of the derivatives vide infra). The Stokes shifts were found to be in the range of 130 nm in all derivatives investigated [37]. 

Microwave enhanced CVD. UV-vis, IR, and mass spectroscopies of the solute and raw soot material formed via the MW-CVD method indicate a complex assortment of various carbons and hydrocarbons. For example, in the UV-vis spectra of soot material dissolved in ether or hexane, the absorption band at 250 nm is routinely observed. Since corannulene has a pronounced absorption peak at 250 nm (26), it is possible that corannulene is a precursor of fullerenes in the MW-CVD method. However positive identification of the individual species will require extraction, purification, and further analysis.
