Contrast, filter

Use contrast filters in front of the camera lens (e.g., 11 Green, 12 Deep Yellow, 15 Orange). [Pg.86]

Change your variable contrast filter to a higher or lower number. [Pg.86]

Examine your negative and make a fair judgment as to its contrast. If it appears to be high in contrast use a low-contrast filter (1,1 1/2,2), and if it appears to be lacking contrast use a higher grade filter (3,3 1/2,4). If you are unsure start with a 2 1/2 filter. [Pg.88]

The use of multi-quantum imaging inherently includes a multi-quantum contrast filter in the sequence. Such multi-quantum filters (cf. Section 7.2.10) can also be combined with single-quantum space encoding techniques. They are used to discriminate coupled spins i from uncoupled spins in liquids and signals from ordered materials from those of disordered materials. [Pg.346]

When photographing phosphorescence quenching zones at a wavelength of A, = 254 nm, a GG 435 glass filter placed in front of the camera lens often eases the rendition (7). Moreover, contrast filters for black rendition (mostly Wratten filters Blue 47 or Red 25) are employed for black and white... [Pg.234]

In statistical terms, a perceptual improvement is therefore obtained if the amplitude distribution in the filtered signal (image) is more concentrated around zero than in the raw data (contrast enhancement). A more concentrated amplitude distribution generally means smaller entropy. Thus, from an operator perception point of view, interesting results should be obtained if the raw data can be filtered to yield low entropy amplitude distributions. However, one should note that the entropy can be minimized by means of a (pathological) filter which always outputs zero or another constant value. Thus, appropriate restrictions must be imposed on the filter construction process. [Pg.89]

A 3D summation tomographic image is generated and layers in any direction may be viewed. Image quality is improved by filters. The method has been proved satisfactory on a high radiographic contrast cylindrical object and on more complex items. [Pg.476]

After digitization, the images have been presented to the same observers group. The first diagnosis has been established without the use of any filters or contrast enhancement. For the second one, observers have been allowed to use ... [Pg.501]

At this point it is worth comparing the different techniques of contrast enliancements discussed so far. They represent spatial filtering teclmiques which mostly affect the zeroth order dark field microscopy, which eliminates the zeroth order, the Schlieren method (not discussed here), which suppresses the zerotii order and one side band and, finally, phase contrast microscopy, where the phase of the zeroth order is shifted by nil and its intensity is attenuated. [Pg.1663]

As discussed above the errors in the trajectory are correlated with the missing rapid motions. In contrast to the friction approach of estimating the variance, which may affect long time phenomena, we identify our errors as the missing ( filtered ) high frequency modes. We therefore attempt to account approximately for the fast motions by choosing the trajectory variance accordingly. [Pg.274]

In contrast to spectrophotometry, hght-scattering experiments are generally conducted at constant wavelength. Mercury vapor lamps are the most widely used light sources, since the strong lines at 436 and 546 nm are readily isolated by filters to allow monochromatic illumination. Polarizing filters are also included for both the incident and scattered beams so that depolarization can... [Pg.690]

Neither rapid sand nor mixed-media filters remove appreciable quantities of coUoidal particles without adequate pretreatment. Although it is widely beheved that filters are an effective barrier against unsafe water, the effluent may be as colored, as turbid, or as bacteriologicaHy unsafe as the water appHed. In contrast, slow sand filters requite no pretreatment, as the slow passage through the bed allows the particles to contact and attach to the schmut ecke. [Pg.276]

From 1980 to 1988, aimual cellulose acetate flake production in the United States showed a slight decrease in production from 392,000 t to 323,000 t with an aimual decline of —0.4 to —0.1% (Table 6). World demand for cellulose acetate flake has also fallen. A modest recovery has occurred in recent years as a result of the increased demand for cigarette-filter tow world consumption of cigarette-filter tow has risen about 2.5% per year since 1980 (Tables 7 and 8). In contrast, world demand for textile fibers and cellulose ester plastics decline 4.6% and 4.2% per year, respectively (Fig. 9). [Pg.255]

Other chemometrics methods to improve caUbration have been advanced. The method of partial least squares has been usehil in multicomponent cahbration (48—51). In this approach the concentrations are related to latent variables in the block of observed instmment responses. Thus PLS regression can solve the colinearity problem and provide all of the advantages discussed earlier. Principal components analysis coupled with multiple regression, often called Principal Component Regression (PCR), is another cahbration approach that has been compared and contrasted to PLS (52—54). Cahbration problems can also be approached using the Kalman filter as discussed (43). [Pg.429]

The photolysis of 4-substituted 2,3-dimethyl-3-isoxazolin-5-ones has been studied. Irradiation in methanol or ethanol with a 100 W high-pressure mercury lamp through a Pyrex filter of a 4-phenylthio compound produced a semithioacetal (Scheme 5). In contrast, an H, Cl or OPh moiety gave no reaction. The use of alkylthio substitution gave similar products. Cyclic compounds yielded cyclic products (Scheme 5), and the photolysis of (29) in benzene... [Pg.14]
