Contact dermatitis atropine

Contact dermatitis of the lids sometimes occurs during use of ointments containing sensitizing agents such as atropine or neomycin, because ointments are characterized by prolonged ocular contact time. Hypersensitivity to the incorporated preservatives may also occur. [Pg.44]

Hypersensitivity to atropine is most usually seen in the form of contact dermatitis and conjunctivitis. One case of anaphylactic shock after intravenous injection of atropine has been reported (SEDA-14,122). [Pg.375]

Treatment with atropine has resulted in rhabdomyolysis." Exposure to atropine has resulted in allergic reactions, including contact dermatitis. ... [Pg.198]

Atropine is a widely used drug in human medicine and its history, relatively free from adverse events, suggests that while its therapeutic use may pose a significant hazard, it does not pose a significant risk. If the drug is misused or abused, severe toxicity may be expected and contamination with the skin may elicit contact dermatitis. [Pg.198]

K. Yoshikawa and S. Kawahara, Contact allergy to atropine and other mydriatic agents. Contact Dermatitis, 1985, 12, 56-57. [Pg.245]

Hypersensitivity may occur, usually in the form of contact dermatitis and conjunctival redness following the use of atropine eye drops or atropine eye ointment (SED VIII, p. 313)... [Pg.361]

Except for a much shorter duration of action, the effects of scopolamine are, for practical ophthalmic purposes, the same as those of atropine. The toxic effects of hyoscine hydrobromide are similar to those of atropine, but with hyoscine bradycardia instead of tachycardia occurs and central stimulation rarely precedes depression. Drowsiness leading to coma is the main central symptom. Idiosyncratic reactions are more l ely to occur with scopolamine than with atropine, and ordinary doses occasionally induce severe reactions. Contact dermatitis of the eyelids is less common with scopolamine than with atropine. [Pg.361]
