We thank many of our friends who continue to teach us the fundamentals of chemical process safety. Those who have been especially helpful include G. Boicourt and J. Wehman of the BASF Corporation W. Howard and S. Grossel, who have extensive industrial experience and are now consultants B. Powers from Dow Chemical Company D. Hendershot from Rohm and Haas R. Welker of the University of Arkansas R. Willey of Northeastern University and R. Darby of Texas A M University. [Pg.647]

A site specific study is the most comprehensive approach. Site specific studies to identify and quantify explosion hazards are usually conducted by the owner s process safety specialist or by specialty consultants. There are several steps which need to be taken, each of which may be done in a variety of ways. The steps are outlined below with some of the available methods. More detailed information is available in CCPS Building Guidelines and API RJ -752. [Pg.151]

It is recommended that a safety factor of at least 2.0 be used [34], In certain cases, lower safety factors may be employed. The designer should consult the appropriate process safety section in the engineering department for advice. Table 12-4 lists the applicability of both Leung and Fauske s methods. [Pg.972]

In 1992, the Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS), a section of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, released a how-to book [28] which contains practical appendices on inspection and test procedures. These appendices comprise the practices at major chemical manufacturing facilities. Chapter 8 should be consulted for specific information and actual plant programs. [Pg.248]

In an ideal world, an easy-to-contact, responsive modifications man would be available for questions generated in Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance. This modifications man could be a Process Safety Engineer, Loss Prevention Engineer, or a mechanical or chemical engineer who has been trained in chemical process safety. Preferably, this individual would be an on-site plant employee, but he could be a company regional engineer, a property insurance consultant, or a contractor. The modifications man must understand basic loss-prevention principles of proper layout. [Pg.231]

The 1991 CCPS/AIChE Directory of Chemical Process Safety Services, AIChE, New York, 1991, contains a compilation of more than 350 sources of chemical process safety services offered within the United States and Canada. The book contains the names and addresses of companies offering consulting services, emergency services, testing as.sis-tance, and training schools. [Pg.277]
