Constant cycle

Growing vegetables in narrow beds, divided by access paths, has many advantages over traditional row cropping. On a traditional vegetable plot, soil improvers and fertilizers are applied across the whole area, and then dug in. The soil between the rows is compacted as crops are watered, fed, weeded, and harvested. A bed system breaks with this constant cycle of compaction followed by cultivation. [Pg.212]

Have the sniffer breathe in constant cycles at 20 breaths/min, record the exact moment an odor is first detected at the sniff port, associate it with a descriptor, and then record the moment the odor is no longer detectable. [Pg.1099]

The sniffer should have been trained in advance to breathe in constant cycles and to perform the analysis. [Pg.1099]

Have the two sniffers breathe in constant cycles and record data (see Basic Protocol 1, step 7). At the same time, have the sniffers record the perceived change in intensity by using a cross-modal matching device to indicate a slide bar position or a cursor position along the length of a line. [Pg.1102]

The optimum gradient steepness is different for the less and the more retained component. It varies with the separation factor. For the less retained component, the production rate usually reaches a plateau without a maximum and, in most cases, there is no production rate gain above G = 0.4-0.6. Although the cycle time should decrease when the gradient steepness is increased, the optimum column efficiency increases with increasing gradient steepness and these two effects compensate each other, resulting in a nearly constant cycle time. [Pg.902]

The process airstream is passed through the stoneware as it enters and exits the central incineration chamber. By constantly cycling the airstream between two columns, the incoming airstream is heated by stoneware, which in the previous cycle was absorbing heat from the airstream exiting the central chamber. As this column loses heat to the incoming airstream. [Pg.933]

It is wise to return a conveyor within the furnace to save heat loss and to prolong its life by minimizing the amplitude and the frequency of the temperature cycle to which the conveyor materials are exposed. Many materials last longer if kept hot, rather than being constantly cycled between hot and cold. For flexibility during production line delays, it is advisable to provide a temporary storage area at each end of a conveyor furnace. [Pg.128]

Further detailed simulation results for different periodical times are presented in Fig. 4.7. For an on/off liquid flow variation at constant cycle split of 0.5 an increasing of the time-averaged alpha-methylstyrene conversion depending on the speciflc cycle times (tperiod) will be shown. [Pg.89]

Both methods are able to pull material through the supply chain. According to Monden, the constant cycle method is favored for subcontractors in the Toyota Production System (TPS). These may take the form of milk mns to the supplier several times a day, a constant cycle method, to pick up material for assembly lines. In TPS, the constant quantity method is favored for internal suppliers. The difference is the distance factor. Constant cycle delivery leaves less to chance from transportation disruptions over longer distances. [Pg.402]

In addition, large amounts of COj are absorbed by the Earth s oceans and eventually form carbonates in rocks and soil. The carbon atoms do not stay in these places indefinitely, however. In a natural cycle, COj is channeled back into the atmosphere through the decay of plants, the decomposition of rocks, the eruption of volcanoes, and respiration in animals. The Earth s carbon atoms thus travel a constant cycle, from air to plants and animals or rocks, and then back into the air. The average carbon atom in our own bodies has made this cycle approximately 20 times. [Pg.302]

Most of the liquids we encounter are not pure liquids but solutions, mixtures in which a solid or liquid solute dissolves in a liquid solvent (12.6). Water solutions are the most common of all solutions. Water is a unique substance with unusually strong cohesive forces for its molecular weight (12.7). Water is constantly cycled through the oceans into clouds and back into the ocean in a process known as the hydrologic cycle (12.8). [Pg.348]

Another component of supply chain linkage is the quantity-timing decision for production. This decision includes the rules by which partners will order and replenish stock along the supply chain. Monden also describes the alternatives used to set up kanbans in the Toyota Production System. The first option is constant quantity. With the constant quantity decision, the same quantity is produced when a production need is triggered. This is particularly appropriate for operations with high set up costs. The selected quantity should be sufficient to assure an economic transfer. The second decision option is constant cycle. With this rule, stock is replenished on a fixed cycle. The quantity is determined by the actual amount used. [Pg.275]
