In terms of dead loads, the shape of the trench in which the pipe will be buried is also a factor. Generally speaking, a narrow trench with vertical sidewalls will impose less of a load on the pipe than will a wider trench with sloping side walls. It is necessary also to know the modulus of soil reaction (E), which is dependent on the type or classification of the native soil, the backfill material that is contemplated, and the desired consolidation of the backfill material. Soil consolidation is important, because it contributes to the strength of a flexible conduit in a buried pipe system.

In children, the intensity of the consolidation treatment is now determined not only by the child s risk classification but also by the rate of cytoreduction during induction.5 Patients who respond slowly to induction therapy (as determined by bone marrow examination early in induction) are at higher risk of relapse and are treated on more aggressive regimens.

In general, a material flows poorly if its strength is large relative to the consolidating stress o-j. Jenike called this ratio of o-i to, the flow fimetion (F = ai/f ). Conversely, Ehlermann and Schubert (1987) sustained that compressibility results from materials of different composition cannot be compared and that flowability characterization through compressibility must be made specifically for each food variety.
