Vicinal coupling constants Jhh indicate very clearly the relative configuration of the coupling protons. Their contribution depends, according to the Karplus-Conroy equation... [Pg.42]

The couplings of vicinal protons in 1,2-disubstituted alkenes lie in the range 6-12 Hz for cis protons (dihedral angle 0°) and 12-17 Hz for trans protons (dihedral angle 180°), thus also following the Karplus-Conroy equation. Typical examples are the alkene proton AB systems of coumarin (16a, cis) and tra 5-cinnamic acid (16b), and of the cis-trans isomers 17a and b of ethyl isopente-nyl ether, in addition to those in problems 3, 4, 8, 11, 13 and 38. [Pg.44]

Another design method uses capture efficiency. There are fewer models for capture efficiency available and none that have been validated over a wide range of conditions. Conroy and Ellenbecker - developed a semi-empirical capture efficiency for flanged slot hoods and point and area sources of contaminant. The point source model uses potential flow theory to describe the flow field in front of a flanged elliptical opening and an empirical factor to describe the turbulent diffusion of contaminant around streamlines. [Pg.850]

Specific ventilation recommendations were included in the CDC guidelines. The recommendations for isolation rooms serve two purposes. The first is dilution of contaminant, in this case droplet nuclei in the isolation room, The second is isolation of the space occupied by known or suspected TB patients from adjacent areas. The CDC and Conroy, et al. present recommended operating conditions for isolation rooms. These three conditions are presented in the Different Forms and Boundaries Relative to Other Types section below. [Pg.1001]

CDC recommendations for isolation are shown in Table 10.14. Conroy et al. present a modified version of these criteria to take into account different isolation conditions (Table 10.15). [Pg.1003]

Conroy and Perlow [235] have measured the Debye-Waller factor for W in the sodium tungsten bronze Nao.gWOs. They derived a value of/= 0.18 0.01 which corresponds to a zero-point vibrational amplitude of R = 0.044 A. This amplitude is small as compared to that of beryllium atoms in metallic beryllium (0.098 A) or to that of carbon atoms in diamond (0.064 A). The authors conclude that atoms substituting tungsten in bronze may well be expected to have a high recoilless fraction. [Pg.305]
