Connectivity Constitution

A novel approach [98], proposed for generating starting configurations of amorphous dense polymeric systems, departs from a continuous vector field and its stream lines. The stream lines of continuous vector fields never intersect. If the backbones of linear polymer chains can be associated with such stream lines, the property of the stream lines partly alleviates the problem of excluded volume, which - due to high density and connectivity - constitutes the major barrier to an efficient packing method of dense polymeric systems. This intrinsic repulsive contact can be compared to an athermal hard-core potential. Considering stream lines immensely simplifies the problem. 

The olfactory region located in the poorly accessible recessed roof of the nasal passages offers the potential for certain compounds to circumvent the blood-brain barrier and enter into the brain [48]. The olfactory sensory cells are in contact with both the nasal cavity and the CNS and this neuronal connection constitutes a direct pathway to the brain. By utilizing this pathway drugs would not only circumvent the blood-brain barrier, but also avoid any hepatic first-pass effect and degradation in the blood compartment, a particularly important issue in the case of peptide drugs.

The models of a Unit are built as follows the behavioural model is obtained by comparing its input and output values. The type of Unit and its connectivity constitute the structural model. Furthermore, each Unit is associated with a functional model. Finally, the teleological model defines on an abstract manner the goal and purpose of a Unit inside an artifact.

It is possible to place a deactivated silica capillary in the transfer line (Section 1.2.3) and to connect the analytical column to the latter. Obstructing this capillary by jabbing it into a septum when changing the column avoids stopping the pumps of the mass spectrometer. Be aware though, as mentioned previously, all press-fit connections constitute potential sources of leakage.
