Configurational choice

We turn now to the front end of each half-series, and the divalent ) compounds of Ce and Tb. Fig. la makes clear that the configurational choice offered here is not... [Pg.71]

Once the number of elements to be analysed has been defined (a priori knowledge of the sample or qualitative analysis) the appropriate spectrometer configuration (choice of crystals) is adopted, the order in which the various elements are analysed is selected (certain elements such as alkalines are sensitive to the beam) and the spectrometers are calibrated. [Pg.163]

For complex configuration selection problems, such as distillation columns, the previous analysis is helpful but does not always guarantee that the best configuration will be identified. The performance differences between reasonable configuration choices and the best configuration can be substantial. Therefore, in these cases, the use of detailed dynamic simulations for the analysis of the control performance of feasible configurations is recommended wherever possible. [Pg.1245]

The difficult, cis/cis configurational choice was readily made by nuclear magnetic resonance meso(1245), m.p. 225° and wieso(12/45), m.p. 241°. Nuclear magnetic resonance also identified the trans/trans isomers dl(14/ 25), m.p. 208° and meso(15/24), m.p. 285°. The dl configuration might have been established by resolution, but only a few resolutions of poly-hydric alcohols have yet been accomplished. [Pg.35]

The mathematics can sometimes show explicitly how performance is affected by system parameters and configuration choices. This is true for certain special families of models, including many of those treated in Sections 4 to 6 below. To get similar information through simulation may require a large amount of computation. [Pg.2146]

The wave function for the elechonic structure can in principle be any of the constructions employed in electronic structure theoiy. The prefened choice in this context is a wave funchons that can be classified as single and multi-configurational, and for the latter type only complete active space (CAS) wave... [Pg.230]

Let us consider an example to understand why the CAS choice of configurations works. The S ground state of the Be atom is known to form a wavefunction that is a strong mixture of CSFs that arise from the 2s and 2p2 configurations ... [Pg.488]

A sequence of successive configurations from a Monte Carlo simulation constitutes a trajectory in phase space with HyperChem, this trajectory may be saved and played back in the same way as a dynamics trajectory. With appropriate choices of setup parameters, the Monte Carlo method may achieve equilibration more rapidly than molecular dynamics. For some systems, then, Monte Carlo provides a more direct route to equilibrium structural and thermodynamic properties. However, these calculations can be quite long, depending upon the system studied. [Pg.19]

The cost of a PV device is determined by several factors. These include the kind of materials used and the amount of materials requited, choice of substrates, device design, and fabrication processes. Crystalline devices ate generally mote efficient, but thin-film devices ate anticipated to cost less in flat-plate configurations. The use of concentrated light permits retention of efficiency with simultaneous reduction in cost. [Pg.470]

These reactions can be cataly2ed by bases, eg, pyridine, or by Lewis acids, eg, 2inc chloride. In the case of asymmetric alcohols, steric control, ie, inversion, racemi2ation, or retention of configuration at the reaction site, can be achieved by the choice of reaction conditions (173,174). Some alcohols dehydrate to olefins when treated with thionyl chloride and pyridine. [Pg.141]

If the tank has some headspace, as is usually the case, it is desirable to get a better estimate of the ac tual level, since tanks usually have some gas headspace even when filled with hquid. Two tank configurations are considered the gravity discharge tank (discharge is open to the atmosphere) and the pumped discharge tank. These calculations assume that the process is so rapid that an adiabatic model for the gas in the headspace is the correct choice. This is true when the drainage... [Pg.2336]

Polypropylenes produced by metallocene catalysis became available in the late 1990s. One such process adopts a standard gas phase process using a metallocene catalyst such as rac.-dimethylsilyleneto (2-methyl-l-benz(e)indenyl)zirconium dichloride in conjunction with methylaluminoxane (MAO) as cocatalyst. The exact choice of catalyst determines the direction by which the monomer approaches and attaches itself to the growing chain. Thus whereas the isotactic material is normally preferred, it is also possible to select catalysts which yield syndiotactic material. Yet another form is the so-called hemi-isotactic polypropylene in which an isotactic unit alternates with a random configuration. [Pg.251]

There are at least two ways to make the struts. They could be solid members, or they could be hollow members. You could well imagine that, under certain circumstances, solid members would be perhaps preferable to hollow members, and for other reasons just the opposite would be true. It is up to you to figure out which of those two choices is best for this application. Look at both choices, or you can, alternatively, give a compelling argument as to which configuration, solid cross section, or hollow cross section, you use, with an emphasis on why. Then, you will not have to do the other calculations. [Pg.398]
