Computer image processor

For a research reactor to acquire a capability in real time radiography, the full time attention of one engineer in the operating organization will be required. On-site shop mechanics may be used to fabricate and install filters and collimators under the supervision of operations personnel. A technician will be required. The image processors and host computer will need to be purchased from vendors. 

The components in the beam are susceptible to design and fabrication at the facility. The image processor and the host computer are not. The costs of the image processor and host computer have been dropping, but still remain about 100 000-S250 000. 

In display systems, image processors are usually utilized to facilitate the manipulation of image enhancement and restoration (including filtering, selection of regions of interest, cut-view display, zooming, and distance measurement) without interrupting the host computer. 

At present, two problems persist for the clinical application of IR spectral imaging methods. One of them is the enormous size of the datasets. In order to image an entire lymph node section, about 5x5 mm2 in size, on the order of 200 x 200, or 40000, individual spectra are collected. Although the data acquisition presents little problem and could be performed with existing array detector-based spectrometers within a few minutes, the data reduction by HCA takes over a day, even when using powerful personal computers such as the 64 bit AMD processor in our laboratory. The situation will undoubtedly improve tremendously when true 64 bit, WINDOWS-based operating system will be available to address the enormous... 

AFP Performance Benefits. Comparisons between the performance of the Advanced Flexible Processor and other current super computers have been made on the image processing Change Detection Algorithm. The Advanced Flexible Processor has been determined to be approximately 2,000 times faster than a CDC 6600 on the Change Detection Algorithm, and to provide approximately 100 times the capability of the CDC 7600 computer. The Advanced Flexible Processor is found to perform 20 times faster than its predecessor, the Flexible Processor.
