Computer-aided flow analysis

Computer-aided flow-simulation programs are also available for dies. All the programs can successfully predict a certain amount of shrinkage under specific conditions that can be applied to experience. The actual shrinkage is finally determined after molding or extruding the products. When not in spec process control changes can meet the requirements unless some drastic error had been included in the analysis. [Pg.443]

Computer aided design (CAD)/computer-aided manufacture (CAM) programs have been developed to carry out the necessary calculations. One current system known as Polyflow is offered by a Belgian organisation (Polyflow SA). Polyflow can be used to calculate three-dimensional flow and die swell, using finite element analysis. Other systems are available. [Pg.182]

Further work is being directed to computer-aided analysis of (1) flow in other roll configurations, especially roll-wall combinations and reverse-roll coating (2) stability of the flow to meniscus nonuniformity — "ribbing," for example and (3) effects of viscoelasticity. [Pg.263]

Because traditional testing, such as melt flow index, ash content and tensile testing, may not provide enough information to avoid processing defects, the more complete analysis is desirable. Here, the data is entered into a computer aided quality (CAQ) system for analysis and comparison with specifications. The decision tree utilized is typical of what might be used for this class of materials. This same approach can be used for failure analysis of these materials in the product. [Pg.700]

The mould is full within approximately 3 seconds. (After C. R. Fenn and M. Sharrock, Chloride Lorivail Ltd., and Larufrover UK Ltd.)... [Pg.381]

Computer-aided engineering (CAE) analysis of the structure also provides a very useful tool in understanding the flow of forces in the pack. CAE tools can be used to assess how mechanical structure of the RESS will react in both performance and abuse situations. From a structural perspective, CAE can be used to determine the RESS behavior under crush scenarios, rollover scenarios and impact scenarios as well as the overall stresses that the pack will see during various drive cycles. [Pg.144]
