Composition environmental issues

Gas purification processes fall into three categories the removal of gaseous impurities, the removal of particulate impurities, and ultrafine cleaning. The extra expense of the last process is only justified by the nature of the subsequent operations or the need to produce a pure gas stream. Because there are many variables in gas treating, several factors must be considered (/) the types and concentrations of contaminants in the gas (2) the degree of contaminant removal desired (J) the selectivity of acid gas removal required (4) the temperature, pressure, volume, and composition of the gas to be processed (5) the carbon dioxide-to-hydrogen sulfide ratio in the gas and (6) the desirabiUty of sulfur recovery on account of process economics or environmental issues. 

The objective of this chapter is to address introductory sketches of some fundamental behavior issues that affect the performance of composite materials and structures. The basic questions are, given the mechanics of the problem (primarily the state of stress) and the materials basis of the problem (essentially the state of the material) (1) what are the stiffnesses, (2) what are the strengths, and (3) what is the life of the composite material or structure as influenced by the behavioral or environmental issues in Figure 6-1 ...

Ranking Unit. "Ranking unit" refers to an environmental issue at a facility. The definition of a ranking unit is derived directly from its use in the Environmental Survey. A ranking unit is a composite of similar and related environmental problems located in approximately the same geographic location. There can be, and often are, multiple ranking units at each DOE site. Each ranking unit may have multiple exposure modes (e.g., multiple release locations, different release methods, different pathways). 

Demand for natural fiber composites has been evident in Europe where environmental issues are prominent. As an example, all BMWs and Mercedes use natural fiber composites for components, such as door liners, boot liners and parcel shelves. 

Operating difficulties inherent in Peirce-Smith converters are well known [7]. Peirce-Smith converters operate in a batch-wise manner, and hence the offgas from these converters varies in composition and volumetric flowrate. These variations increase the difficulty of offgas treatment. The converters are poorly sealed leading to fugitive SO2 and fiime emissions causing hygiene and environmental issues.
