Complementary RNA

The a-anomeric form of a 2 -deoxyribose, which has the base inverted with respect to the natural P-anomeric form, can be synthesized by using the phosphoramidite method sugar modification renders the derivatives nuclease-resistant. These analogues form parallel duplexes with complementary RNA... [Pg.264]

When writing protein sequences, you write the amino terminus on the left. If you have to use the genetic code tables to figure out a protein sequence from the DNA sequence, it is not necessary to write down the complementary RNA sequence first it s the same as that of the sense strand (the one on top) with the Ts replaced by Us. [Pg.55]

The siRNAs assemble into a complex called RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) and unwind in the process. The single stranded siRNAs then attach to complementary RNA molecules, thus targeting these RNAs for destruction—a process that is called gene knockdown. [Pg.82]

Pulse measurements. A self-complementary RNA with 12 base pairs was spin labelled at uridine near the middle of the strand.83 Three-pulse PELDOR gave an interspin distance of 35 2 A, which is in good agreement with molecular modelling. For a shorter self-complementary RNA, dipolar modulation was not observed, which was attributed to aggregation or weak duplex formation. [Pg.329]

This occurs by the processes of transcription in which complementary RNA is produced from specific sections of DNA and then translation of this message into protein (Fig. 6.38). [Pg.259]

The RNA genomes of single-stranded RNA bacterial viruses, such as Q/3, MS2, R17, and f2, are themselves mRNAs. Bacteriophage Q/3 codes for a polypeptide that combines with three host proteins to form an RNA-depen-dent RNA polymerase (replicase). The three host proteins are ribosomal protein SI and two elongation factors for protein synthesis EF-Tu and EF-Ts (see table 28.5). The Q/3 replicase functions exclusively with the Q/3 RNA plus strand template. It first makes a complementary RNA transcript (minus strand) and ultimately uses the minus strand as... [Pg.715]

The affinity towards a complementary RNA strand can be improved by using peptide nucleic acids (PNAs) [20]. These DNA mimics, in which the nucleic acid bases are linked to a polyamide backbone [21], usually exhibit improved binding properties with a complementary DNA or RNA strand [22]. The use of an excess PNA-DETA adduct 20 in a Tris-HCl buffer (pH 7), in the presence of NaCl and EDTA at 40 °C, resulted in a sequence-selective cleavage of the RNA strand 21... [Pg.430]

In the transcription process the two DNA strands are separated and the antisense DNA strand paired with its complementary RNA bases by enzymes called RNA polymerases to produce mRNA that encodes the same sequence of bases as the sense DNA strand. The only difference between the DNA and RNA sequences is that the saccharide section of the nucleoside is ribose rather than deoxyribose and uracil takes the place of thymine. The effects of these changes are that the hydrophobic 5-methyl group of thymine has been removed to generate uracil and a 2 -hydroxy group is present in the linking saccharide (Table 2.4). [Pg.62]

This splicing correction assay has now been widely adopted, since it has a low background and provides a positive read-out with a large dynamic response. Neutral steric-block ON, such as peptide nucleic acids (PNA) (5) or phospho-rodiamidate morpholino oligonucleotides (PMO) (6). are particularly suitable for this purpose, since they cannot recruit RNase H, they hybridize with high affinity and selectivity to complementary RNA, and they are metabolically very stable. However, they cannot be transfected with most commercially available delivery vectors. [Pg.86]

Further, in situ hybridization using S-labeled complementary RNA probe showed that the Bombyx PITH gene was transcribed in the same cells, indicating that Bombyx PITH is synthesized in these cells (12). In Manduca sexta two pairs of brain neurosecretory cells in a similar location have been immunohistochemically identified as the PTTH-producing cells (14). [Pg.25]
