Communications teamwork

By applying the logic that is set in the foundation of an engineering education to a fast-paced, demanding atmosphere such as financial services, many opportunities exist to apply the specific technical skills that one masters in school to a broad array of opportunities. Additional general skills are also important - organization, communication, teamwork, and a desire for excellence. These assets are attractive to several divisions in particular within the financial industry ... 

At UCLH, operating theatre teams led the adaptation and implementation of the checklist. Most notably, implementation did not focus on the checklist per se, but on resolving issues with poor communication, teamwork and culture in the operating theatres. Whilst the checklist provides a platform for structuring team communication, the hospital had a clear goal that bigger cultural issues needed to be addressed in order to improve patient safety.

Airservices Austraha technicians also undeigo training in HF and the management of human error. This HF training is similar to that outlined in the ICAO Human Factors Training Manual (199S) and incorporates HF fundamentals such as conceptual models of error, cultural and oiganizational factors, human performance, communication, teamwork and environmental issues. 

Communications, teamwork, pre-job briefings, walkdowns of field activities, and giving and accepting feedback (i.e. open reporting) are all good examples of a strong safety culture in maintenance.
