But communications is one of the most important commercial applications, because a beam of light gives us an enormously wide bandwidth. Bandwidths have been produced up to about 100 gigabytes, in other words, a hundred billion pieces of information per second, in one light beam. Now actually, in principle, the bandwidth could be one hundred times more than that. As we develop the technology, we can transfer a million billion pieces of information per second, and that will be more than all of the radio, TV and telephones all over the world, put on one light beam. So the laser has an enormous potential for communications, and it s already being used in this way. 

It is unfortunate, especially where great care has been taken in gathering the data, if mistakes are then made during the reporting process which renders the effort wasted. The calculation and reporting processes are made easier if the data are recorded in a clear manner in the first place. The need for checking data from first principles cannot be over emphasized. Once the final answers have been obtained and any additional conclusions or opinions reached, a report can be compiled from the information for communication to the customer. 

However, all of the practices rest on four simple principles Inform, Implement, Communicate, and Verify (or, "Know, Do, Tell and Check"). 

Not least of all it is a matter as to what extent the new product or process quality can be communicated to potential customers and is approved of or even causes enthusiasm . Guiding principles can play an important role in this case.
