The specific heat of a substance must always be defined relatively to a particular set of conditions under which heat is imparted, and it is here that the fluid analogy is very liable to lead to error. The number of heat units required to produce unit rise of temperature in a body depends in fact on the manner in which the heat is communicated. In the late 1940s zeolites were synthesized according to the procedure shown in Fig. 3.24. First an amorphous alumino-silicate gel is formed. This process is completely analogous to the production of alumina and silica gels described before. Subsequently this gel is crystallized into zeolite. The preparation of zeolites has drawn tremendous attention of the scientific and industrial community. A wide variety of zeolites have been synthesized, and reproducible synthesis procedures have been reported (often in the patent literature). Natural zeolites also exist massive deposits have been discovered in many places in the world. 

A correlation of isomer shift, electronic configuration, and calculated -electron densities for a number of ruthenium complexes in analogy to the Walker-Wertheim-Jaccarino diagram for iron compounds has been reported by Clausen et al. [ 127]. Also useful is the correlation between isomer shift and electronegativity as communicated by Clausen et al. [128] for ruthenium trihalides where the isomer shift appears to increase with increasing Mulliken electronegativity.
