Com gluten feed

Corn germ meal (21% protein) is the dried residue left from oil recovery from germ. It has high absorbency for liquids, such as molasses and tallow, but the primary use is as an ingredient in com gluten feed. 

The value of com gluten feed is considerably affected by the fermentations in the steeps, by the skill used in neutralizing the sulphurous acid and the acids produced by fermentation in the steeps, and the care in drying the feed before shipment. 

The manufacturers of com products by the wet process generally use com of grades 3, 4, and 5. Each grade of com varies in certain respects but the standard of the products made from it is not supposed to vary. As a matter of fact, as good starch can be made from soft com as can be manufactured from the best com but this is not true of com oil or com gluten feed made from corn. The poorer the com the poorer the com oil as a general rule, also darker and poorer com gluten feed is made from poorer com.
