Modulation of myelopoiesis is a receptor mediated process which requires colony-stimulating factors (CSFs) for differentiation and maturation (1). The genes for several of these factors have been cloned and their products have been characterized. Thus, much is known regarding the interaction of these factors with their respective target cells (2). However little is known concerning the metabolic reactions that follow receptor binding such as subsequent signal transduction and other events which lead to the initiation of differentiation.
