Coil-type condensers

C—Surface Coil Type Condenser, Intercondenser and Aftercondenser N—Signifies no condenser in the series. [Pg.350]

It is always a better method to use coil-type condensers especially for carrying out reactions under absolutely INERT CONDITIONS . [Pg.49]

Mg. 11, 56, 17 (Davies types) and Fig. 11, 56, 18 (double coil type) are examples of efficient double surface condensers. Fig. 11, 56, 19 depicts a screw type of condenser (Friedrich pattern) the jacket is usually 10, 15 or 25 cm. long and the cone and sockets are fil9 or 24 this highly efficient condenser is employed for both reflux and for downward distillation. [Pg.217]

Compounds having low vapor pressures at room temperature are treated in water-cooled or air-cooled condensers, but more volatile materials often requite two-stage condensation, usually water cooling followed by refrigeration. Minimising noncondensable gases reduces the need to cool to extremely low dew points. Partial condensation may suffice if the carrier gas can be recycled to the process. Condensation can be especially helpful for primary recovery before another method such as adsorption or gas incineration. Both surface condensers, often of the finned coil type, and direct-contact condensers are used. Direct-contact condensers usually atomize a cooled, recirculated, low vapor pressure Hquid such as water into the gas. The recycle hquid is often cooled in an external exchanger. [Pg.389]

Condensers, Liebig type, one about 60 cm. long a shorter one, 10-12 cm. long one of the Dimroth or coil type. [Pg.90]

A 200-ml. three-necked flask is equipped with a thermometer, a mechanical stirrer, a gas inlet tube extending as far into the flask as the stirrer permits, and a trap (designed to return the heavier layer of the condensate) (Note 1), which is attached to a bulb and a coil-type reflux condenser connected in series. Methyl p-ethylbenzoate (98 g., 0.597 mole) (Note 2) and a mixture of 1 g. of chromium oxide and 4 g. of calcium carbonate, prepared by grinding the solids together in a mortar, are added. An air line with a bleed control valve (Note 3) is connected from the top of the condenser to a water aspirator. The flask is heated with a hemispherical electric mantle (Note 4). [Pg.81]

Milk.—For the manufacture of condensed or evaporated milk, skimmed milk is usually concentrated to M or K of its original volume, and this is done in single-effect evaporators of the film or coil type. The capacity is from 2 to 3 gal. per square foot, with low-pressure steam, and up to 4 gal. per square foot with high-pressure steam, at a vacuum of from 26 to 28 in. So as not to cook the milk, the temperature must not exceed 60°C., and in Europe skimmed milk has been concentrated in double-effect evaporators of the rapid-circulation type with good success. [Pg.381]

Wood particle and fiber driers are used to dry the raw material for particleboard and similar products (20). Just as with the veneer for plywood, the parhcles must be dried before being mixed with the resins and formed into board. Drying is accomplished in a gas-fired drier, a direct wood-fired drier, or steam coil driers. Many different types of driers are used in the industry. Emissions are fine particles and condensible hydrocarbons, which produce... [Pg.514]

For a steam coil to operate efficiently, it must have all the latent heat in the steam. This is achieved by the use of a steam trap. The correct trap type must be selected for the particular application in order to prevent waterlogging. All condensate, air, or other noncondensable must be removed from the system without delay otherwise,... [Pg.712]
