Cobalt 204 Inorganic Syntheses

Preparation of Cobalt Hydrogenation Catalysts. K3Co(CN)6 was prepared following Brauer (8), HCo[P(OPh)3L was prepared following an Inorganic Synthesis procedure (9), and K3Co(CN)5 was prepared following the procedure of Adamson (10). [Pg.180]

For an early overview on the use of stoichiometric amounts of cobalt complexes, see Pattenden, G. (1988) Cobalt-mediated radical reactions inorganic synthesis. Chem. Soc. Rev., 17, 361-82. [Pg.402]

Natural gas contains both organic and inorganic sulfur compounds that must be removed to protect both the reforming and downstream methanol synthesis catalysts. Hydrodesulfurization across a cobalt or nickel molybdenum—zinc oxide fixed-bed sequence is the basis for an effective purification system. For high levels of sulfur, bulk removal in a Hquid absorption—stripping system followed by fixed-bed residual clean-up is more practical (see Sulfur REMOVAL AND RECOVERY). Chlorides and mercury may also be found in natural gas, particularly from offshore reservoirs. These poisons can be removed by activated alumina or carbon beds. [Pg.276]

The most important applications of hydrogen sulfide involve the production of sodium sulfide and other inorganic sulfides. Hydrogen sulfide obtained as a by-product often is converted into sulfuric acid. It also is used in organic synthesis to make thiols or mercaptans. Other applications are in metallurgy for extracting nickel, copper, and cobalt as sulfides from their minerals and in classical qualitative analytical methods for precipitation of many metals (see Reactions). It also is used in producing heavy water for nuclear reactors. [Pg.379]

Coordination complexes of cobalt(III) are ideal for undergraduate work in inorganic chemistry because of the inert nature of the d6 ion. The first synthesis of this trans complex was performed in 1896 by S. M. Jorgenson and took approximately 96 h.1 The synthesis described herein takes approximately 15 min once the starting material, [Co(NH3)4C03]N03, has been prepared by known procedures.2... [Pg.270]

The ability of the hydrophilic PAA core of the amphiphilic core-shell brushes to coordinate with different metal cations can be used for the synthesis of novel nanosized organic/inorganic hybrids or for the generation of gold clusters or cobalt nanowire [126]. [Pg.202]

The BF4 anion in the clathrochelate [CoDma(BF)2](BF4) complex can readily be replaced by another large inorganic anion (e.g. PFe ) via an exchange reaction occurring in aqueous-acetonitrile solution in the presence of a great excess of the substituting anion salt [39]. The reduction of the [CoDma(BF)2](BF4) clathrochelate with Nal solution in acetone yielded a macrobicyclic cobalt(II) CoDma(BF)2 complex. The synthesis of the latter via a template condensation on the Co2+ ion was not yet successful. [Pg.15]
