Cobalt-aluminum hydroxide catalyst

In this special field, earlier work had been done in other laboratories, such as by the Schering Company, Berlin (36), and by Ipatieff (37) in connection with his work on the hydrogenation of camphor and of other organic compounds. At both places, the favorable effect of alkali oxides and earth alkali oxides on nickel, cobalt and copper has been investigated. Similarly, Paal and his coworkers (38) have used a palladium-aluminum hydroxide catalyst in 1913 for the hydrogenation of double bonds. Bedford and Erdman (39) had reported that the catalytic action of nickel oxide is enhanced by the oxides of aluminum, zirconium, titanium, calcium, lanthanum, and magnesium. [Pg.97]

Raney cobalt catalyst. The catalyst is prepared by the action of sodium hydroxide on a 40 60 cobalt-aluminum alloy available from Raney Catalyst Co. The procedure is that used by Billica and Adkins for the preparation of W-7 Raney nickel. [Pg.1222]

Other Methods of Preparation.—Ethyl 2-(D-ara6i no-tetrahydroxybutyl)-5-methyl-4-furoate has been prepared by heating D-glucose plus ethyl acetoacetate in aqueous alcohol without a catalyst,1 or from the same reagents (1 g. and 0.5 ml., respectively) in 0.5 ml. of 96% ethanol plus 1.5 ml. of water at room temperature in the presence of ferric chloride, zinc chloride (with small quantities of hydrochloric acid or of sodium hydroxide), cupric chloride, ferric sulfate, zinc sulfate, aluminum chloride, nickel chloride, or cobalt nitrate.18... [Pg.128]

Cobalt catalysts are obtained by reducing the basic carbonate, hydroxide, or oxide in a stream of hydrogen. The preparation of the Raney-Ni catalysts follows the conventional method [14], Pure metallic cobalt, chromium, iron, and molybdenum as fine powders were added to nickel and aluminum powders, with a Ni/Me molar ratio around 0.02. Then, the alloy powders were submitted to a leaching process with soda under different temperatures to obtain promoted Raney-Ni catalysts. Besides the prepared samples, a commercial Raney-Ni catalyst (GETEC) was also tested [15], The industrial leaching process from GETEC was adopted sodium hydroxide solution (6 M) was added to the alloy and the mixture was heated at 100 and 120 °C for 2 h and stirred at 1200 rpm. [Pg.351]
