Uses of Composite Particles. Composite particles are of substantial commercial importance because they provide new property balances for tougher plastics, films, nd coatings. They are used to combine in a cost-effective manner functional groups or high performance components which are expensive with low-cost components and they provide opportunities to vary the optical properties of coatings. Microencapsulation interests are diverse, ranging from pharmaceuticals to dyes and toners and to magnetic particles. 

Use Paper coating, grease-resistant coating, label varnishes, laminated board, solid-color prints, printing inks, food coatings, microencapsulation, fibers. 

This chapter will review recent advances in cell encapsulation from material science, technological and tissue-related perspectives. Cell coating, microencapsulation devices and bioartificial organs will be discussed with the artificial pancreas and treatment of diabetes used as a case study denominator throughout the review. 

Controlled release and delivery involves delivering a drug/nutrient at a controlled (desirable) rate within the body. Along with fUm/polymer coatings, microencapsulation is one of the most common techniques used in the development of controlled-release matrices. In microemulsions, the location of an incorporated bioactive compound, whether in the oil, water or interface, will affect its release pattern (Leser et al., 2006).
