Clove powder

Chill Powder. Chili powder is a commercial blend of several spices, ie, chili peppers, oregano, cumin seed, onion and gadic powders, aUspice, perhaps cloves, and others. Chili powder is the basic flavor for many highly spiced dishes, among them chili con came, and is used in cocktail sauces and ground meats. 

The ZOE impression paste is essentially a two-paste ZOE cement. One paste is formed by plasticizing the zinc oxide powder with 13 % of mineral or vegetable oil. The other paste consists of 12% eugenol or oil of cloves, 50% polymerized rosin, 20% silica filler, 10% resinous balsam (to improve flow) and 5 % calcium chloride (accelerator). 

Simmer 1 cup of fresh or 1/2 cup dried elderberries in 3 cups of spring water add 1/8 tsp. powdered cloves, 1/4 tsp. powdered cinnamon and 1 inch of fresh chopped ginger root. Thailand. Hot water extract of the dried rhizome is taken orally as a carminative " , an antiemetic, an anticolic, a hypnotic, a cardiotonic , an emmenag-ogue, and a stomachic . The fresh rhizome is taken orally as an antiemetic and a gastrointestinal sedative . Hot water extract of the fresh rhizome is taken orally for fever, headache, and diarrhea and as an emmenagogue, a carminative , and an aromatic stimulant . The powdered fresh rhizome, together with cloves, are mixed with water and rubbed on the body for the relief of rheumatism . 

Invented in 1527, laudanum, a designation for a number of products containing opium, iiquor, and a variety of other ingredients, was the most popuiar form of opium consumption in the West. Of all the laudanum products available, the most popular was a brand called Sydenham s Laudanum, which contained one pound of sherry wine, two ounces of opium, one ounce of saffron, one ounce of powder of cinnamon, and one ounce of powder of cloves. Its popularity stemmed from the sweetness of the sherry undercutting the natural bitterness of opium. For more than 400 years, this method of opium drinking remained widespread among Western nations. 

Dried, powdered garlic products should be standardized to contain 1.3% alliin (the allicin precursor) or have an allicin -generating potential of 0.6%. Enteric-coated formulations are recommended to minimize degradation of the active substances. A daily dose of 600-900 mg/d of powdered garlic is most common. This is equivalent to one clove of raw garlic (2-4 g) per day. 

Cinnamon.—The bark of the lawns cinnamomum, and that from Ceylon is the best. It is very thin, brownish-red, and has an agreeable aromatic flavor.. The oassia, winch it resembles closely, is thicker, rougher on the surface, and comes in larger rolls or quills. The first is often sophisticated with the latter, and sometimes even a part of its volatile oil is abstracted by infusion in alcohol. This latter fraud is detected by the feeble smell and teste of the cinnamon. The finely-groimd hark is used for pastilles, sachets, an tooth-powders. Its aroma may also be extracted in the form of tincture, by alcohol. By distillation, it yields an essentia] oil of powerful odor, which is largely used in combination with oil of cloves and other strong essences. (... 

Opiate Tooth-paste.—Ilouey, powdered orris, and precipitated carbonate cf lime, each half a pound rose pink, two drachms. Rub into paste with simple sirup, and perfume with attars of cloves, nutmeg, and rose, each half an cunce. 

Poudre A Iq, Vanille Brume—lor the skin or for sachets.—Powdered vanilla, rose leaves, lump storax, benzoin, rhodium, palllsandre and ebony woods, each one pound powdered cloves, two ounces powdered musk, two drachms. Mix together with three pounds of starch sift, and add a few drops of extracts of tuberose acd jessamine. 

Poudre A V (Fillet Composes—tar the skin or sachets. —Pondered rose loaves and orris root, each three pounds powdered bergamot peel, one pound powdered cloves and oinnamon, each six ounces powdered acacia and orange flowers, each eight ounces etarcl], three pounds. 

Cloves are best used whole. The flavour deteriorates quickly once it is powdered. Whole and ground cloves are used to enhance the flavour of meat and rice dishes. They are used widely in curry powders and masalas. In North Indian cuisine, cloves are used in almost every sauce or side dish made, mostly mixed with other spices. In South India, they find extensive use in biriyanis to enhance the flavour of the rice. They are highly valued in medicine as a carminative and stimulant. Cloves are said to be a natural anthelmintic.

The first example is clove bud oil which is composed mainly of caryophylene, eugenol and eugenylacetate. For oil production clove buds were cold milled and one part of the powder was C02-extracted, the other part steam distilled. The yield was 14.8% in both cases. Rub the dry articles together into a very fine powder next rub them again while the syrup is gradually added then aijld the oil of cloves, and mix the whole well together. 

Reduce the aloes and scammony into a powder with the sulphate of potass, then add the colocynth in fine powder, and the oil of cloves, and with simple syrup form a mass. 

While the steam generator is heating, partially grind two boxes (80 g) of whole cloves. They are not to be ground to a powder, but Just broken up a bit.
