The quaternary ammonium compounds (qv) are manufactured by the reaction of an alkyl halide with a tertiary amine. The alkyl halide may be short-chain, long-chain, or benzyl. Selection of a long-chain alkyl group yields structures with variable composition and greatly adds to the chemical complexity inherent in this group. Investigation of structure-activity relationships has led to claims for superior efficacy or compatibility, most notedly with anionic surfactants in disinfectant-detergent cleaner systems, of closely related compounds in the family. 

Electrical heating, through the use of heater coils, strips, or cartridges, is the most popular method. Higher temperatures for faster cycles are easily obtained. Recognize that electric mold heating is only as fast as the wattage put into it. It is a cleaner system than steam that was used many decades ago. 

Hence, there is an increasing need for cleaner systems for alcohol oxidation, and some such systems based on hydrogen peroxide or peracids are available. 

Specialty fatty amides that demonstrate excellent viscosity building and grease cutting properties in formulated cleaner systems. Also excellent lubricants for metal treatment applications. 

Cost-effective detergent blend used in the formulation of efficient dishwash and light duty cleaner systems. 

Primary emulsifiers for a wide variety of personal care, household and Industrial formulations. Excellent detergents and wetting agents for heavy duty and light duty cleaner systems. Function as dispersants, solubilizers, couplers, and co-emulsifiers for specialty cosmetic and Industrial applications. Also used as primary and auxiliary surfactants for emulsion polymerization.
