In other work Rozen added molecular fluorine to a steroidal ene-one dissolved in ethanol at low temperatures to produce a vicinal difluonde in a cleaner, better yield reaction than previously obtainable [55] Although the reaction was not general, the stereoselectivity was very high, and contrary to addition of other halogens, addition was r>ii, characteristic of an electrophilic addition pathway... [Pg.110]

The passage of the Clean Air Act Amendment (CAAA) on November 15, 1990, started a process for regulating the composition and quality of gasoline and diesel fuels sold in the United States. The CAAA s intent was to improve the nation s air quality by reducing ozone and other air pollutants. Title II of the CAAA requires the manufacture and sale of cleaner fuels in order to reduce evaporative and combustible emission of ... [Pg.308]

Phenylmethyldichlorosilane (Petrarch) was distilled prior to use and dried over CaH2- Toluene was distilled from CaH2 and dried over CaH2- The known amounts of sodium were placed in a flask filled with toluene and purged with dry argon. This flask was placed in the ultrasonic bath (75-1970 Ultramet II Sonic Cleaner, Buehler Ltd.) until stable dispersion of sodium was formed. In some experiments an immersion-type ultrasonic... [Pg.79]

Precursors that have been prepared include a number of bis(dialkyldithio-/diselenocarbamato) cadmium(II)/zinc(II) compounds of the type [M CNRR ) ], (E = S, Se) in which the alkyl substituents are the same (R = R = Me, Et, Pr, Pr1) or different (R = Me, Et R = Hex11, Bun) with the latter giving cleaner film deposition routes (described in the earlier section for thin-film growth). [Pg.1051]

Fluoro-5-phenyl-l,2,4-triazine (109, X = F) reacts much faster than the 3-chloro-, 3-bromo-, or 3-iodo-compound. Moreover, the reaction mixture obtained is cleaner than that from the corresponding 3-chloro- or 3-bromo compounds 3-amino-5-phenyl-l,2,4-triazine (110) is formed in good yield. This conversion takes place to only a small extent (18%) via the ANRORC process the main part of the aminodefluorination seems to involve the Sn(AE) mechanism. This result is consistent with the observation that the aminodefluorination of 4,6-diphenyl-2-fluoropyrimidine follows the Sn(AE) process, whereas 2-fluoro-4-phenylpyrimidine (position 6 is vacant for addition of the nucleophile) reacts for the most part according to the Sn(ANRORC) mechanism (see Section II,C,l,c). [Pg.72]

The conventional Grignard reaction (Fig. 2, route I) would generate both a stoichiometric amount of halide waste and a stoichiometric amount of metal waste. It also requires multistep synthesis of the halides. On the other hand, an alternative Grignard-type reaction via catalytic C-H activation in water (Fig. 2, route II) would preclude the use of flammable organic solvents and also avoid the wasteful process of drying them. Obviously, it would provide a cleaner solution for organic synthesis and provide a theoretical 100% atom-efficiency. [Pg.326]
