Classification of refractory products

Due to the large variety of available refractory materials, it is possible to approach its classification from different angles. [Pg.360]

We will describe below the four principal methods of classification providing a quick presentation of a refractory product. [Pg.360]

There are basically three main families of refractories  [Pg.360]

By definition, light insulating products have a total porosity greater than 45% in volume. Below this value, a refractory is considered to be dense. [Pg.360]

The essential property of an electrofused refractory is its excellent corrosion resistance due to its extreme compactness (its porosity is less than 5% and often even 3%) and high refractoriness of its constituent muddled crystals. On the other hand, it is very sensitive to thermal shocks, thus limiting its main utilization to glass furnaces. [Pg.361]
