Cladoceran Daphnia

Arthropods Cladoceran, Daphnia magna Water hardness, in mg CaC03/L ... [Pg.97]

Reduced survival and fecundity of the cladoceran Daphnia magna at a concentration of 10 pg/L and exposure for 32 days (USEPA 1980)... [Pg.102]

In the cladoceran Daphnia magna, about 90% of the total body lead burden is adsorbed to the exoskeleton (Berglind et al. 1985). In animals with a vertebral column, total amounts of lead tend to increase with age. By far the most lead is bound to the skeleton, especially in areas of active bone formation (Barth et al. 1973 Tsuchiya 1979 USEPA 1980 Hejtmancik et al. 1982 Mykkanen etal. 1982 Peter and Strunc 1983 De Michele 1984 Eisler 1984 Berglind etal. 1985 Marcus 1985). The retention of lead stored in bone pools poses a number of difficulties for the usual multicompartmental loss-rate models. Some lead in bones of high medullary content, such as the... [Pg.243]

Cladoceran, Daphnia magna 20 After 6 weeks, whole-body residue of 300 pg/kg 1... [Pg.788]

After first treatment, reduction within 1 week of 3 species of cladocerans (Daphnia laevis, Ceriodaphnia sp., Bosmina longirostus sp.), and 2 species of copepods (Cyclops sp., Diaptomus sp.). No recovery of Daphnia and Ceriodaphnia for 6 months, but Bosmina reappeared 11 weeks later. Diaptomus was depleted for 4 months, but Cyclops recovered in 6-7 weeks. The amphipod Hyallela azteca was eliminated within 4 weeks, and no recolonization was evident after 6 months. No adverse effects on oligochaetes, snails (Physa sp.), or ostracods (Cyprodopsis sp.). After second treatment, temporary reduction in Cyclops and Bosmina, and no significant effects on ostracods, snails, or worms... [Pg.1006]
