Arthur Lapworth (1872-1941) was born in Galashiels, Scotland, and received a D.Sc. at the City and Guilds Institute, London. He was professor of chemistry at the University of Manchester from 1909 until his retirement in 1937. [Pg.707]

After Frankland s move to the Royal College of Chemistry, which had become part of the Royal School of Mines, the school moved to South Kensington (1872), where it became known in 1885 as the Normal School of Science, then, in 1890, the Royal College of Science.
