The main aim of this study was to provide an illustration of the use of chlororganic pesticides and atrazine in Lithuania within the period of the last 30 years, with respect to their impact on health and the environment on a country-wide scale.

Thus, the results of our researches show, that with direct utilization of DDT we san obtain new perspective composition materials. This method permits to solve a very vital ecological and economical problem of processing of unused chlororganic pesticides. 

Surface-active substances (SAS) are the most widespread contaminants of sewage and natural waters. They translate in small dispertion condition liquid and firm polluting substances - chlororganic, mineral oils, pesticides. Therefore, the SAS contents determination in water solutions is now one of actual tasks of analytical chemistry. 

Excess of these preparations in the environment may eventually cause severe impact on health of the human population due to neurotoxic, teratogenic, mutagenic, carcinogenic, and otho undesirable properties of chlororganic compounds. It was common practice to set standards and limits for imported banned chemicals (DDT, mercury containing pesticides) particularly in food. 

Data on pesticides residues in water for the period 1986-1990 indicated a trend of enhanced residues of DDT, but relatively lower concentrations of DDE (Figure 24.9). It is evident that these scattered and incomplete data for surface water contamination by chlororganic compounds are not sufficient to provide conclusions on the precise status of surface water in Lithuania.
