Chitosan Based Surface Modified Nanoparticles

Various surface modified chitosan based NPs were reported for their targeted delivery. Lin et ah, demonstrated the role of glycyrrhizin surface-modified chitosan NPs for hepatocyte-targeted delivery [316], [Pg.88]

Polyaniline is an attractive electropolymerizable polymer for surface modifications due to its unique redox properties, high electrical conductance, and ease of preparation. In addition, polyaniline-modified surfaces retain a large specific surface area and can remain conductive facilitating subsequent electron transfer. Feng and coworkers [8] constructed a DNA impedance biosensor based on gold nanoparticle/pol5 niline nanotube membranes formed in the presence of chitosan as shown in Fig. 14.1. Chitosan was used... [Pg.431]

The in situ method for the preparation of chitosan-coated lONPs involves the coprecipitation of lONPs in the presence of chitosan-based polymers. In this scheme, hydrophilic lONP cores precipitate from solution, forming nuclei with high surface energies, and rapidly adsorb chitosan polymers through physical binding. Under these conditions, uniform layers of chitosan-based polymers can be assembled on lONPs to stabilize each discrete nanoparticle. The chitosan-coated lONPs prepared through this in situ method are monodispersed, and surface modified with a uniform coat of chitosan polymers [86]. [Pg.170]

Recently, Du et al. reported an AChE electrochemical sensor based on enzyme-induced growth of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) without the addition of any gold nano-seeds [17], They have successfully used [Fe (CN)6]3 74 as a probe to indicate the process of electron transfer across the interface and also analyze the enzyme inhibitor quantitatively. Initially, cleaned gold electrode was coated with 0.5 % (w/v) chitosan solution and AChE was later immobilized onto this chitosan modified gold electrode. CV results show that, AuNPs presence increases the peak current and decreases the peak separation. This confirms the presence of AuNPs on the chitosan modified electrode surface. However, the peak current of... [Pg.297]
