China development

Based upon Taoist philosophy, alchemy in China developed. Although there is not any literature concerning atomism among the ancient Chinese alchemists, five elements (Wu Xing) were acknowledged in the twelfth century BCE. These elements were water, fire, wood, gold or metal, and earth. The elements were frequently associated or matched with other sets of five, such as virtues, tastes, colors, tones, and the like (P). In about 1910, modem atomism probably came to China when Sim Yat Sen introduced modem European education. [Pg.30]

Infrastructure and distribution raise similar problems. Capable third-party chemical distributors offering consistently high levels of service are not universally available. According to a 2002 study published by the State Council s China Development Research Centre, 70 percent of China s commercial enterprises have their own fleet of vehicles and 80 percent own their warehouse facilities. MNCs thinking about setting up their own (Western-style) nationwide chemical distribution network have soon been discouraged by the high risks and costs involved. [Pg.432]

Zhang s group in China developed monolithic poly(styrene-co-divinylbenzene) CEC column in which EOF is supported by carboxyl groups of polymerized methacrylic acid units (Xiong etal. [51]). In a typical procedure, vinylized 75 mm i.d. capillaries were filled with a mixture of 5% styrene 21, 10% divinylbenzene 22, 5% methacrylic acid 1, and 80% toluene containing 1% azobisisobutyronitrile (in respect to monomers) and polymerized at 70°C for 24 h. The pore volume of 0.098 mL/g and mean pore size of 40 nm determined for this monolith appear to be rather small and do not correspond with the published SEM pictures that reveal existence of large pores, and the chromatographic performance of the columns in CEC mode. [Pg.224]

A 46-year-old Chinese woman, living in Belgium and China, developed subacute renal insufficiency (15). Her creatinine concentration had increased from 80 gmol/l (November 1998) to 327 gmol/l (January 2000). During the preceding 6 months she had taken a patent medicine... [Pg.337]

But as U.S. involvement in Vietnam deepened, one central ambiguity in American officials image of China developed an unexpected consensus on the perceived limits of Chinese aims. For our purposes, this forms an entry point into the other competing discourses about China during this... [Pg.42]

Fine desulfurizer at room temperature. Since the end of 1980s, Imperial Chemical Industries Ltd (ICI) developed a fine desulphurization process on Hydrolyzed Zinc Oxide at room temperature. Yuhua Kong et al in Hubei Institute of Chemistry, China, developed T504 catalysts for COS hydrolysis and TlOl activated carbon fine desulfurizer successfully, and achieved fine desulphurization at room temperature, with the sulfur content below O.lmg/m in the gas after desulphurization. These desulfurizers are suitable to protect the catalysts for the methanation, ammonia synthesis and methanol synthesis. [Pg.8]

China developed by itself a plant for inden-coumaronic resins. Its production became well known in 1979, when the export of these products began to some Asian countries [385]. [Pg.227]
